Thank u Hogg for the reminder that all student films are terrible even if they’re made by genius stand-ins who suffered legit trauma. (these films are so incredible)

Had high expectations for this one, as a new fan of Joanna Hogg and a lover of Part 1. Part 2 is a very accomplished and smart movie no doubt, it recalls Charlie Kaufmann in it's total loss in meta-ness, and it was so different from what I expected that I can't really judge if I understand it well enough. On face value, though, for me his movie was too academic, too film-schooly, and I prefer Hogg's incredible storytelling about the human condition over this. Would rewatch.

Better than the first in the sense it has some light humor, even space for some surrealistic, dreamy material and it's also kinda playful in its nature of film within a film -- Hogg's character is shooting her graduation film about her grief, while also thinking this work might not really tap what's on her mind, and, you know, there is Hogg's proper film. Too bad it's a bit overthought and overwritten. But Honor Swinton Byrne carries it through once again.

reaps what is sown in the first part and does it really elegantly for my liking

Measured and gentle. Joanna Hogg and Honor Swinton Byrne make Part II at least as compelling as Part I, if not more so.

Taking place in the aftermath of part 1, this totally plays like an aftermath - which just isn't as exciting as the main events. It's still an excellent movie though, Joanna Hogg seems capable of nothing less.
