Basically they thought they would throw in two "hot" people and a love scene and call it good, but it's really not good at all.

This is worth watching only to see Rod Steiger and James Woods try to over-act each other. Just as Steiger is about to belt "Lucy you got some splainin to do," Woods counters with being completly psychotic as explosions go off around him. In the end, as Woods pulls up to the finale in a pink car, it may be Sharon Stone's gratuitous sexual aura that wins the day. This is a complete disaster, even for 1994.

A list of better film explosions: the opening of Touch of Evil, the circular glass explosion from The Matrix, the hospital from The Dark Knight, any car that goes off a cliff in an action movie, the Predator's suicide solution, the White House in Independence Day, Jeff Daniels on the toilet in Dumb and Dumber, the sheep in Bad Taste, Meg Ryan in that diner in When Harry Met Sally. A list of worse explosions: Eminem on the mic in 8 Mile.

James Woods is batshit crazy in this film - but when wasn't he? I mean that truly as a compliment. I don't think I have seen a sexier Sharon Stone, who has also - evidently and worth an appraisal - given her best shot in acting in the flick, while Sly is... well, Sly is Sly. Eric Roberts is always entertaining on the screen. The score is good. I've forgotten everything else about the film already.

80's action movies should reside solidly in the 80's. Turn back the clock 10 years and this might have had an audience. We were all over it by this point.

It's not often one gets to watch the couplings of B list talent who have ZERO chemistry. Excuse me while I whip this out.

Haha! Had good fun, I admit. At least the couple of minutes during the film when I wasn't twisting my body in sheer agony. Epic scene in the bus. What makes it good enough for 15 is Sharon Stone who actually isn't nearly as bad as the rest. Eric Roberts? Shockingly terrible.

Silly, really silly. Stone and Stallone don't really have any chemistry, making their love affair kind of creepy to watch. Woods is great, though.

I like things that go BOOM, and this movie bombed big time for me. NO chemistry whatsoever between the main characters and the wonderful Rod Steiger doing his best(ish) Marlon Brando impersonation. I can think of worse films, but I can think of squillions of better ones

The Specialist is definitely one of Sylvester Stallone's worst action films and it's completely forgettable. His chemistry with Sharon Stone is awful and it just feels like 'Basic Instinct' with explosions. James Woods is the only notable standout. All I can recall is a handful of sex scenes and a handful of explosions. The end.

There were way too many films like this made in the 1990's and this is a perfect example of Stallone and Stone cashing in on their names alone.

The Specialist is a silly but strangely watchable 'thriller' with a number of laughably bad moments and questionable erotic content. Sly and Stone have some chemistry, but their sex scenes are often accompanied by Barry's incongruous jazzy-noir score that merely highlights the problem in bright neon lights: nobody seems to have a goddamn clue how ridiculous it all is, except for Woods, who was born to play assholes. He is fun to watch, but Steiger is incredibly hammy as the Cuban mob boss.

Former CIA demolition expert Ray Quick (Sylvester Stallone) lives in Miami, where he works as a hit man. May Munro (Sharon Stone) contacts Ray to kill a family of mobsters led by Tom Leon (Rod Steiger) and his son (Eric Roberts), who murdered May's parents 20 years ago. Ray agrees to the job and also begins an affair with May. His mission is complicated when he learns his former partner, Ned (James Woods), now works for the mobsters he is trying to kill.

Some of the worst sex filmed in the history of cinema. Luis Llosa doesn't understand how to stage and shoot action scenes. Isn't even fun in a goofy way or in an ironic way- just plain bad.

Doesn't know what the hell it wants. 1001 vibes. Switched in and out of mercilessly. James Woods' bad guy shtick is....what the hell is he doing there, man? The movie it seems to like to be seems pretty cool. But there is just too much ridiculousness going on, especially in the dialogue. Steider and Stone are very convincing, though.

Teaming of second-wind Stallone and post INSTINCT Stone is a TV-level actioner given an immeasurable boost from Woods' swing-for-the-fences villain; it's not a great sign when you're wishing the supporting villain was the central focus but he does make this fun between the moments S&S share the sexiest sex scenes this side of THE ROOM. Ultimately too cluttered and convoluted to succeed as the trashy actioner it wants to be, with 3 villains camping for primary focus, but enjoyable enough.
