A cast this stacked and it comes out like this? Disappointing, but Jim Brown rules in it.

How can a movie with this set-up, cast and locations be such a let down. Maybe it's too much of a good thing much more likely it's just underwritten and not a good enough Director melding it all together. Soundtrack was filled with hits tho

Passes the time.

The Split really serves as an in-between of '50's film noir & 70's blaxploitation. It has the hard-boiled noir angle of men committing a crime while distrusting one another. And it marries that with a blaxploitation hero ready to erupt against the racism of a criminal underworld. However, the script has several missteps, mostly involving a few late twists and a tacked-on ending. Still, it is adroitly made, Brown is good, and the Quincy Jones soundtrack is fantastic. Marginal recommendation.

Impossible to care about any of these smug characters despite an interesting cast. Jim Brown is particularly awful.
