Energizing black-power flick directed by Ivan Dixon, who co-starred in Hogan's Heroes, and shot guerrilla-style in Chicago. It's dumped into the blaxploitation genre but it's a lot more than that. There's a real commitment to revolutionary ideas and also to, ahem, black comedy. A must-see.

Pretty funny. I fast-forwarded through the guy at the start explaining to all us dumb honkies what the point of the movie was. Very good score by Hancock. DVD commentary by Greenlee was interesting, though he seemed a bit smug. Wonder how many times the SLA watched this one?!

As scathing as Watermelon Man, and as elegantly written as Nothing But a Man.
