It definitely feels like a TV movie particularly the performances from Ringwald, Nemic and San Giacomo. That being said most of the rest of the cast is excellent and it ends up being a pretty entertaining watch.

Thanks in large part to an incredible ensemble cast anchored by one of Gary Sinise's best performances, this surprisingly true adaptation of Stephen King's masterpiece does a VERY good job of bringing the novel to life, despite some nineties miniseries cheese here and there. Jamey Sheridan makes for a terrifying Flagg, and Laura San Giacomo, Rob Lowe, and Bill Fagerbakke are standouts in particular among the supporting players. Definitely underrated.

Randall Flagg really should have given up after finding out the Boulder-ites had both the magical negro AND the magical retard. You really cannot hope to win if you don't have one or the other in a King story.

Started off a hell of a lot better than it finished. There is some notably bad scenes/acting but can easily be forgiven. Bit of a shame considering the potential and the fact that its post apocalyptic.

It's a sad journey that sets out as epic postapocalyptic showdown with supernatural elements, only to end up praising the protestant God for all his sadism. It makes me shiver to think back on the time before HBO, where this kind of naive dualism set the standards.

Stephen King is awful. Every stupid juvenile mumbo-jumbo story he tells could be told in its entirety in 5 minutes, but he pads it out to 2 hours or more. He's just a literary windbag and I detest everything he writes. In this one, he has the literal Hand Of God reach down from the sky. What a hack. How is it this did not piss off every single person who saw it?

Meh. As a Stephen King fan AND "The Stand" being one of my favorite novels by him, I *had* to like this. Still, that's certainly not how I'd pictured Randall Flagg... Gary Sinise was good as Stu, though.

Quintessential Stephen King nothingness. Good premise and idea, where halfway through the story it's evident that he has no idea how to progress it in a manner different than juvenile nonsense and empty tropes and figures with no substance, quite literal Deus Ex Machina, and needlessly prolonged prosaic shallowness. The redeeming points here are the likeable characters - although part of a meaningless story - and the first episode which set a good apocalyptic pandemic atmosphere.

Not horrible, but even with the length of a miniseries to work with, they cut out so much of the best stuff from the novel. Trashcan Man being reduced from a major character to a cameo at the end was a major let down.

After the 2020 series came out and the pandemic happened I went back and rewatched this, similar to the 1990 It miniseries I think a lot of people are giving decent scores because of nostalgia more than anything else. As bad as the 2020 series was, this is somewhat worse. The Stand is kind of unadaptable unless you've got a 20 episode show with an HBO budget and someone incredible playing Randall Flagg. Like alternate universe not-in-The-Shining Jack Nicholson in his prime level performance.

A lighter post-apocalyptic tale. It's less about survival and more about being religiously chosen to fight evil during it. It's a bit strange and light-hearted in a way, but the story feels a bit rote, if a bit interesting. I think part of the disappointment is that the runtime is too long for the subject matter, with the higher concepts not being explored much, along with the story feeling aimless apart from the central theme. As someone said, "epic plague-Armageddon evil-against-good soap"

This was definitely solid, but not much else. The first two episodes were quite good at introducing characters and creating a scary environment. Yet the third and especially the fourth are underwhelming at best. Sinise and Lowe are great yet Ringwald is not. I wish Sheridan could be recast. I was happy I watched it but I hope for a better go at this.

With a good editor and a better budget, I feel like this could have been cut down to a 2 hour movie or so that would actually have been good. Or, it could have been expanded into an interesting longer tale. At any rate, the concept was intriguing but the execution was pretty bad for a multitude of reasons. Ranks among similar supernatural Stephen King adaptation misfires, Pet Sematary and Children of the Corn.

Now this is a movie that I would be pumped on a remake of. There's no reason for ths one to be 6 hours long, it could easily be cut down to 2-3. A lot of stuff could be cut out and have the movie keep the same effect. I watched this movie through the 6 hours and thought the ending was a little weak. If I wait that long I want to be blown away. M O O N, that spells mediocre movie.

After having read the book the film seems lacking. This is a mixed bag of performances, some great and some truly awful. It's fun for what it is, but I can't help thinking that had this been an extended series on HBO without any censorship issues, this could have been SO much more.

I saw much of it, not all, but enough to get a notion that stuck. The few Stephen King adaptations that were any good were normal length movies like Carrie and Misery that got to the essence and created a concise cinematic experience. The sprawling epic length ones (the uncut version of Salem's Lot, It, and this) don't work because they rely instead on the text. King's writing is stale and contrived and these serials just expose its weakness, and The Stand is perhaps particularly silly.

Not a patch on the book, but a surprisingly decent 6-hour TV adaptation that introduced me to this Stephen King epic in the first place. Managing to squeeze the majority of the story into this runtime is admirable but it still feels rather rushed - and while there are plenty of big-name actors on show the budgeting is evident with some of the supporting cast (and sets). In the current era of utterly unnecessary remakes, a longer mini-series of this could be a welcome one.

At just over six hours long. The Stand is a commitment to try and get through. The journey is worth it and follows the novel's story well for the most part. Even if the ending (same as the novel) leaves a bit to be desired.

One of my favorite books turned into a rather lame TV movie. It's not terrible, but the potential was there for something great. Some of the "special effects" don't exactly hold up...I'm pretty sure they were laughable when this came out, actually. And a classicly terrible performance by Parker Lewis.
