This wonderful little movie dwarfs most mainstream flicks, despite its small budget and short playing time. I do have one compliant--albeit a minuscule one--and that's the the stunted ending...though it grew on me after a while. Okay, I'll stop now.

What a sleeper of a movie. It's slow pace somehow hides the fact that even repeated viewings work well enough. When you care about the people in a movie, you don't mind it if you're just invited to do nothing with them.

Resonated with me for a variety of personal reasons, but also because it's simply a bittersweet story about finding your place in the world. Everything about it, from the direction, to the script, to the acting, is simple but works really well. There are warm, likeable characters, and I liked how it just ended, mid-flow, without trying to wrap everything up or make some grand point. A very effective human drama.

Sweet and funny, way better than McCarthy's 2nd pretentious indie flick. When I see Dinklage, I always think of that Entourage joke: Ari: "You're one of the biggest actors in this town Peter" Peter Dinklage: "What is that, a play on words, dickhead ?!"

A beautiful story about solitude and the perils of connecting with other people, and one of my favorite movies of the 2000s. For me, this is Patricia Clarkson's breakout role, the first time I saw her and thought, "Oh, my god--who iS that woman?" The raw fragility of her performance is overpowering. It remains my favorite performance of hers--in fact, all three leads do the best work I have seen any of them do here.

True loneliness is one of the most awful and powerful feelings. Each of the three main characters deal with this emotion in their own way, and the performances are spectacular to watch. McCarthy has obviously moved away from little films about simple stories such as this, but his freshman outing is still his best.

A great movie about friendship, loss, bitterness, and introversion. The three leads are very charming and believable. The cinematography is gorgeous. It's the perfect movie for unwinding after a long day.

The rare feature film to be built around a dwarf. Modest, offbeat, a bit stiff and clunky, with a restrained and dignified central performance from Dinklage, and a smattering of railroad knowledge.

It's nice to see how a conventional story structure can be enlivened by a good writer/director. The central character arc could have been such a cliché, but McCarthy pitches it just right, so that when his shell finally starts to crack, you really feel it, and it's very rewarding. I suppose Dinklage's wonderfully expressive face helps a little bit too.

Very good movie about loneliness, with fantastic performances from all three leads. It's great to see the change in each of them as the story unfolds. The ending is very abrupt, however. Having it end on that type of scene is fine, but it really felt like there should have been something else to it (and judging from the deleted scenes on the DVD, there was.)

Under rated film with a simple but effective story line. Powerful scenes and some truly moving acting with a feel of the misfits meets a road movie.. Very touching in parts and the only possible weakness is the lack of a defined ending - slight anticlimax but maybe appropriate given the subject matter. Worth watching

It's not a complex movie by any means, but it gets a lot of emotion out of it's simplicity. It does a wonderful job showing loneliness and how someone can be so accustomed to it that they become somewhat cold to other people. Peter Dinklage and Patricia Clarkson are great as always and Bobby Cannavale shows again why he is maybe the most underrated character actor in the movie industry.

I really enjoy this film every time I watch. There are several moments that always make me laugh. The acting is outstanding as Peter Dinklage, Bobby Cannavale and Patricia Clarkson are all at the top of their games in this film. The script is great and highly original. I can not stop praising this amazing film!

Peter Dinklage was excellent in this, as was Patricia Clarkson. I don't think I've seen any other films that deal with dwarfism so directly. Usually little people are only used in films for comedic effect or to make things 'weirder'. I enjoyed this one a lot. It's not perfect, but if a nice, amusing film with endearing characters sounds like your cup of tea, I definitely recommend this.

Low key and deceptively simple slice of life is admirable for its refusal to surrender to cheap sentiment or manufactured conflict - the three lead characters feel as real and defiantly "themselves" as any in recent memory with Dinklage, Clarkson and Cannavale helping to bringing them to vivid life. Perhaps nothing of earth shaking significance happens here, but sometimes its fascinating to just watch a group of people leading their ordinary lives.

"The Station Agent" is a great example of simple, subdued, character-based yet touching indie cinema. Discreetly nuanced and realistic, Tom McCarthy's debut is a winner, with an excellent leading trio (Peter Dinklage, Patricia Clarkson and Bobby Cannavale) and an admirably melodrama-free script.

Quality indie, which might not offer anything new or earth-shattering, but the film has a heart and an interesting set of characters. The cast is good; especially Dinklage who is excellent as Finn. There are some scenes where the film is close to being quirky for quirkiness sake, but it never goes overboard. I can easily see myself re-watching this at some point.

There's lots to like here. The performances are good, it's well shot and the lonesome storyline does carry some resonance. That said I didn't buy into all of the characters interactions. McCarthy never quite manages to detail the three protagonists relationship enough, and the development of the relationship never quite worked as well as it could have for me. It just felt a scene or two short as to telling us why these three needed each other. Overall though still a good watch.

The movie is very low key, but it was so relaxing. not only were the people on the screen doing nothing and enjoying it, but so was I. I would read a book around peter dinklage any day of the week.

The Station Agent is one of the bright stars of recent American independent cinema. It stands as a capably-written and directed film from Tom McCarthy who avoids overplaying his hand as he does in his later film, The Visitor, and instead allows his characters here to live and relate to one another without descending into speechifying. I especially like that the film is able to treat its somewhat oddball cast of characters without irony, allowing them to exist as simple, struggling human beings.

There's something about the way this film paints these characters. Our own lives might not include inheritances of train depots, but they do include events like it, and our paths are crossed by the paths of people like Joe and Olivia and even the girl in the library; the major events in the film are a lot like the major events in our own lives: a yelling disagreement here, an almost-fight in the parking lot of a bar there, a quiet separation between friends over there.

A fake presentation of Thomas McCarthy's views of real people. Every bit of this movie felt forced, cliched, and contrived. This only served to make every character annoying. Bobby Cannavale was especially grating. I like quirky movies but this boarders on cutesy/sappy and almost to a nauseating extent. People always complain about films being pretentious. Well this is the exact opposite. The film never ceases to remind you how humble and down to earth it is. Just disgusting film making.

Just a warm, human film about three outsiders that sounds like a Tom Waits song - a dwarf living in an old abandoned train station befriends a Cuban hot dog vendor and a divorced artist - but somehow remains low-key and natural enough to be just a pure delight from beginning to end.
