"Le magasin des suicides" is a decent film which for the most part follows the book quite well but is nowhere near as good. The decision to make it a musical seriously hampers the plot, and the happy ending - different from the book's - is totally unsuitable and leaves a sour aftertaste.

Loved the concept - the titular Parisian suicide shop is darker than Tim Burton crossed with the Addams Family! Great tongue-in-cheek nonchalance about ordinary people topping themselves left and right. The drawings looked good and the voice acting fitted in well. The unflappably cheery boy was a great story disruptor too. Puns, musical numbers, blaring house music - certainly no shortage of ideas in this film. My only gripe is that it was over far too soon in under 80 minutes.

Non so.

Le Magasin des Suicides is delightfully dark in its concept and refreshingly different in its animation, resembling high quality motion comics with luscious backdrops. The film is unfortunately let down by its (almost) single-tune music, over-leaning on musical numbers, and underwhelming ending. I haven't read the novel, but looking up its ending shows exactly where this film drops the thematic ball, aiming for feel-good over existential purpose. Decent, but could have been much better.

Such a nice premise, but it gets SO CHEESY. I got embarrassed the second half, it was so bad.

The art is fantastic, the humor is great and the whole film is very well-done. Didn't care much for the kitschy ending.
