The Super Cops

Parks does a good job of capturing NY 70's grit, and it's solidly made, but it loses direction in its final act, and it's nowhere near as funny or inventive as Freebie and the Bean. As nuotio rightly noted, it is like a Blaxploitation film with white protagonists, and the fact that it was made by Parks, one of the key figures of this style and an African American, means it has curiosity value for fans of low rent 70's genre films.

Great example of balancing action and comedy without compromising either. Gordon Parks who also directed "Shaft", provides gritty street locations, action and great use of soundtrack. It's sort of a blaxploitation flick which just happens to star to honkey cops. Why isn't this better known?

"The French Connection" and "Serpico" are some of the best cop films ever made but "The Super Cops" might've topped both in terms of pure entertainment - it's definitely funnier than the two :P

Enjoyable movie and interesting to see the apparently unspoiled 70's settings, including cars and clothing exactly as they would have appeared. No real moral to the story or examination of the motives of the characters. They are just good, and eventually they win through perseverance. Refreshingly, the would-be love interest disappears after she asks Super Cop #1 to leave her alone about half way through the movie. Evidently in romance, he knows when to back off.

It's almost reminiscent of The Town That Dreaded Sundown with the melding of humor and themes that are pretty far removed from being comedic setpieces. However, it actually melds the comedy in a way that doesn't make you upset you're still watching it. I really liked this.
