The Survival Family

Heavy-handed, clumsily told, amateurish, and a lazy final act... but the premise is interesting enough to keep it afloat anyway. And it's a nice change of pace from the usual violent apocalypse scenarios.

It's no secret I dig pre-apocalypse/disaster movies and I really enjoy when they're done with an amount of subtlety (Le temps du loup, for example, never tells you why things fell apart). This is similar: for some reason, society falls apart, and the family has to adapt. I found it fascinating on many levels particularly in how it shows Japanese culture reacting (you'll be disappointed expecting American style chaos). Although it kinda wrapped itself up too neatly, the adventure was engaging.
