I would have to reach pretty deep to distill any meaningful out of it, and i think it's too uneven to deserve to be analyzed that way, but as an unconventional road trip satire it was amusing

The real Civil War movie. What kind of American are you?

"The Sweet East" explores modern American life, cultures, and perspectives. Director Sean Price Williams impressively handles a talented cast and showcases his skill in cinematography. Simon Rex shines as a verbose, anti-liberal Neo-Nazi, injecting humor. However, character development, especially for Lillian, is lacking. The screenplay lacks depth and continuity, becoming repetitive. Interesting characters aren't fully developed or understood.

A weird movie. Beautiful cinematography. Entertaining, and funny at times. Hard to say something without spoiling it, because there is not that much going on. Worth watching at the cinema if there is nothing else compelling you.

A bit Linklater and fair portions of Safdie bros in a wondrous scattered depiction of contemporary America through the eyes of a teen who bumps into all kinds of people, only to leave them soon but in time to kind of "steal" something of each one. At the same time, she's none/all of them. Beautifully written and shot (of course). Shooting scene at a film shooting is brilliant. In a weird nod, I kept thinking how Civil War could borrow some of its sheer inventiveness -- just look at that finale!

There's a timeless whimsy to this Wonderland tale, but each vignette is deeply rooted in very modern culture. Each one is more of a blast to watch than the last, with the film not afraid to get close to just about each of the characters, no matter how unwoke they are. But ultimately, the film has a real antagonistic 'fuck you' attitude to its viewer, especially with its very alarming ending -- I really respect it for that.
