Brilliant casting of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Beautifully shot, with great costumes. Manages to overcome the obvious sexist overtones of the play.

It is a very good movie made after Shakespeare's play.

Excellent filming of Shakespeare, with Burton and Taylor bringing their fiery, easy chemistry to give the play an added spark when the source material and adaptation sometimes fails them (the sudden reintroduction of major players in the midsection is a little discomforting). Taylor especially gives it her all and does an admirable job of seeming a natural when speaking Shakespeare's words. Rollicking pace and general good humour does its best to coat the veneer of misogyny in the original text.

Just watch Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf instead.

Not even Zeffirelli can direct the post-Virginia Woolf superstar couple. The Burtons are a force of nature, and cannot be harnessed for good.

An enjoyable adaptation of Shakespeare's classic play. Elizabeth Taylor is absolutely seething while Richard Burton is enjoying every second he is on screen.

Liz and Dick do Shakespeare; outrageous hijinks ensue. Costumes and backgrounds are sumptuous and Michael York makes an appearance as one of the suitors of tempestuous Liz (Caterina's) mild mannered (or is she?) younger sister, Bianca. The following year director Zeffirelli cast Michael York as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, one of my all time favorite films.

Some Shakespeare adaptations feel timeless. This one feels 100 years old.
