The Telephone

Not a terribly successful film but not entirely uninteresting either, this one woman show for Goldberg is fatally undermined by Torn's stifling and static direction, which can't bring life and energy to material that would be better performed live (as a one act play, this would work better with the energy of a live audience). Goldberg is inevitably the whole show and is as good as the movie allows her to be; Heard is also a surprise in an uncharacteristically manic performance towards the end.

A funny little movie that's essentially a one woman show and Whoopi Goldberg carried it well with a broad range of impersonations, one ended conversions and some inspired ad-libbing. No plot to speak of just a character study. Worth checking out if you know what you're getting into.
