Flaccid and dull caper yarn may play even worse in the shadow of the OCEAN movies, but it is still a head-scratcher as to how this fails as even the lightest of entertainments; a dire lack of chemistry between Brosnan and Russo certainly doesn't help, but their lifeless performances (matched by equally limp direction from McTiernan (!)) makes this a pretty (very pretty) but dreary slog. Giving Gazzara only one scene and doing nothing with him may be a synecdoche for the film proper!

Not a patch on the original despite a strong cast and not bad acting. Just too much of the Bond persona lingering in Brosnan and too much of the original film to fall short of ... which it does.

Stylish, and sexy. This film doesn't take itself too seriously, and in this case, it's a good thing. Brosnan and Russo are wonderful together.

Fun, lively chemistry between the two leads; this would make a good "date" movie that's sexy without being racy or potentially offensive. Just don't think too hard about the heist plotline, which is full of holes and inconsistencies.

I've not seen the original, but I must say I liked this film. Brosnan continues to be one of my favourite actors. Guys, don't let the write up of it being "an intense love story" fool you into thinking this will be a chick flick, because, as far as I was concerned the love story is handled gently in the background.

Even as a remake, this film kicks all over the butt of the Brosnan Bond run -- a run I actually enjoyed, save the last one. Classy, sexy, and smart film; Russo and Brosnan are firey, with both angling to best the other in this little game they play...

A mildly entertaining little heist movie. It doesn't innovate on formula in any way whatsoever, but it's got some style and Rene Russo topless in multiple scenes. That earns it a thumbs up.

I love the art direction and the score in this film. I love a caper flick, but you don't watch this movie for plot or action. You watch it with a glass of wine, bliss out to the fabulous autumnal color palate, and dream of life on the run.

Simply classier and more interesting than most heist movies. The intrigue is in Crown's motives, the excitement is in the chase and the trickery, and the flair is in the exotic locations, valuable art and sexy women. It feels like the role Brosnan was born to play, even if he doesn't try very hard. McTiernan's directing seems to have come a long way from his action days, and in part it's due to a wonderfully eclectic and spirited soundtrack. This seductive film is a joy to watch and re-watch.

I could not get over how ugly the main woman was. She was very ugly. That is all I could pay attention to. I kept think "Pierce, you're better than that. Please stop making out with that ugly she-beast!" but he never listened. There was a predictable plot here about stealing a painting, which I was able to figure out when the ugly woman wasn't on screen to distract me. This movie should have been called "Watch Pierce Lower His Standards." Also it's boring.

The viewer is supposed to like the rich guy who risks other people lives for his own vanity and entertainment or the middle aged woman who looks for financial gain using her body. The idea is that you can get away with a crime as long as you keep being awesome. Cops will just let you go. Woman belongs besides powerful man. Yea, I hated this film.

The crime sequences that bookend this art-heist film are ingenious, suspenseful, well-paced and well-directed. The rest of the film doesn't caper; it crawls. The leads have little chemistry, and their relationship leads nowhere interesting. Watching the film is like opening an elegant jewel box only to find that the ring that was supposed to be inside is missing.

The Thomas Crown Affair is an unnecessary remake but it's an easy watch and reasonably enjoyable. Pierce Brosnan is perfectly cast and is as cool as ever, generic by his own standards, but very cool none the less. Rene Russo gives one of her better performances and the chemistry between her and Brosnan carries what can at times be a pretty bland film. The soundtrack is good, in particular Nina Simone's Sinner Man. John McTiernan's overall direction is solid and the opening sequence is brilliant.

A completely unnecessary remake, with none of the elegance or atmosphere of the original, punched up (pacing-wise) and dumbed down (WAY down--unless its about pop culture, the dialogue makes no sense much of the time--especially when they try to talk about art) for more modern, um, tastes. At least Rene Russo livens things up a bit, although she really shouldn't try to speak German--if you can hold on until she shows up (I almost couldn't), it's watchable and occasionally fun. Awful score.

Without comparing it to the original, this one is still a forgettable heist/caper movie with Russo providing very little support and Brosnan apparently hoping his Bond charm follows him wherever he goes. Neither of them are at the top of their game and the chemistry between them is less than believable.
