One of the best action-comedys of all time with an all-star cast...

The best part of this is how everyone is prancing around quipping and grinning, and then there's Oliver Reed who's sweating like a pig and busting out pro wrestling moves.

Mesmerising film making - a serious cast of heavy-hitters takes on a slap stick comedy that borders on absurdist, in a lavishly detailed period setting, with the camera always maintaining a distance from the swashbuckling that feels... dispassionate? Cynical? It's fascinating to watch and try and decipher. Apart from all that, it's great swashbuckling fun and sets the standard by which all Musketeers will be judged, but I always felt that this one is really just setup for its superior sequel.

En garde! Swashbuckling campyness taken to a whole new level. Everybody hams it up like they were at the butcher's, everybody gives it their very best in the swordfighting scenes. Heston as Ridchelieu? Greatness.

Fun take on a classic tale, with a good comedic undercurrent that doesn't undermine the drama or action. There are a few flat moments and little to marvel at, but it's a good time.

Very decent action-packed comedy swashbuckler with tactile 70's vibe, fun physicality and a stellar cast chewing up the scenery for all their worth. Oliver Reed is as sweatily magnetic as always, Christopher Lee's fencing is impressive and Charlton Heston serves some thick slices of ham. It kinda want's to be a naive & whimsical fable but also goes for some self-aware & cynical angles ending up a bit jarring tonally. It's all very enjoyable and well made but in a slightly flat and vacuous way.

A "Three Musketeers' Hard Day's Night." Richard Lester directs this movie as if it starred the Beatles, and the film that results is breezy, laugh-out loudy funny, filled with memorable characters and great sword fights too. Reed, Lee, Dunaway. Heston, Welch and Chaplin are standouts in a consistently effective cast. What is really amazing, though, is that this spoof version is actually more faithful to the plot and spirit of the original than all the other Hollywood versions put together.

Well-cast, charmingly light, tons of sword fights, and filled to the brim (to an extent that still surprised me even after being told in advance) with absurdist comedy. Enjoyable little swashbuckler. Better than the Disney one, certainly.

The best of the musketeer films - and certainly the best cast and with the most artistic cinematography.

I wish this movie was more serious. Because comedy elements definitely don't work. The most funny part of the movie is the bad acting and the terrible script.

The humour is spot on, the cast is good, and the production design is beautifully lavish. Replace the messy combat choreography, which drags heavily by the third ten-minute affair, with swashbuckling action, and the film would become a near-perfect adaptation. Colourful and delightfully funny, but ultimately fails to catch as much of the spirit of adventure as I'd like.

This is a funny, visual slapstick style comedy action adventure film, with very much a madcap element and some great people in the cast (including Spike Milligan). The choreography in terms of the fights, I thought was reaonsably impressive. I suppose in a way its a bit like a pre-cursor to the martial arts comedy films of Jackie Chan et al. Its a pretty engrossing watch and it was fast paced enough to keep me watching and entertained throughout. I liked that it doesnt take itself too seriously.
