If you take it for what it is ... it's still shit! No, seriously, this is a very unserious remake of a great story that, mind you, has been made for the screen with class on more than one occasion. I understand, though, why Mila Jovovich is mad at the advertising agency - this is NOT the action film it pretends to be; it is a overplayed, badly written family piece in which director Anderson has allowed Mads Mikkelsen to speak the most embarrasing Danish-English ever. Like, EVER.

Not bad, at least it's entertaining, but nothing remarkable at all. The humour added and the weirdness of Milla Jovovich's character and performance, with the spectacularity of some action scenes, are the best of it. Christoph Waltz was never more wasted. Whatever, it's better just to don't take it seriously (something one knows from the very beginning).

THE THREE MUSKETEERS has, for a climax, a dogfight between two airships...160 years before the first passenger balloon flew. If the same nutty sensibility had applied to the entire film, it might've been fun, but too much of it wallows in cliches; the script is remarkably bad, and the actors do little to help. Christoph Waltz seems utterly bored by the role of Richelieu, while Milla Jovovich, as Milady, has a look of dazed stupidity on her face throughout. Only the sets and costumes impress.

A prime example of what happens when you feed a 4-year old a Costco-sized tub of red vines and then give him some finger paints--a high fructose corn syrup-induced explosion of hues powerful enough to blind an 80's pop star with a penchant for wearing sunglasses at night. And another thing! I would not expect anchors on airships to work in a similar manner as do those that are found on seafaring vessels. For shame Paul W.S. Anderson! For shame! Thanks for ruining my immersion.

I'm not particularly snobby about film, so you need to understand how rare and significant it is for me to say that this movie insulted my intelligence. It's not just stupid, it's AMAZINGLY stupid. Miscast, too; Logan Lerman is unmistakably modern and American and feels so out of place (although I did like Ray Stevenson as Porthos). Cartoony action scenes, bad dialogue, an embarrassing hook for a sequel that will never happen. Makes the 1993 Disney version look brilliant.

The Three Musketeers makes for a fun throwback to the swashbucklers of Errol Flynn. There's sword fights, buxom lasses, airships and a stylish embrace of all things anachronistic. No, it doesn't take itself seriously, nor is it gritty and dark. The story reflects a far more old fashioned style of narrative where everything is resolved with swordfighting. The negative reviews reflect a strange disconnect for a film that is everything it set out to be and everything promised by the trailers.

Perhaps the most boring Musketeers movie on record to date. No charisma or chemistry to be seen in the leads, no dash or pizazz to the swashbuckling scenes. Even the usually reliable Christoph Waltz is dull. Why bother, really?

I expected so much less, but it's still not very good. It has a grandeur and an ability to make me care a little about approximately half of the characters (at least the queen, portrayed by Juno Temple who I absolutely adore), but on the other end of the spectrum is a over-heavy focus on CGI, a flawed plotline and a few utterly dull characters, particularly those of Jovovich (who I can never seem to like) and Waltz. Orlando Bloom was surprisingly alright in his uncharacteristic villain-role.

PWSA gets the best ensemble cast of his career, but thank God he's more interested in building another amusing board game in the shape of a film instead of a by-the-numbers Dumas adaptation. Actually, this is much closer to RE franchise in many ways: the players are in place, some ingenuity and malice, conspiracies and codes of love and friendship between them. A swashbuckler that dares to have equal amounts of comedy, flying ships and sword fights. Also, Milla faces another laser grid.

This is a true swashbuckler! It's good old-fashioned, cowboy-minded, sword-swinging, damsel-saving fun! This is reminiscent of a 1930's Errol Flynn / Guy Williams adventure film. Or for those without the class to know what I'm talking about imagine: Princess Bride or Robin Hood Men in Tights with a Little Man in the Iron Mask / any other Three Musketeers remake.

You know what I want in a Three Musketeers film? The Three goddamn Musketeers, not airships fighting each other in a bad plot device that still has the same trappings as one of the d'Artagnan novels. Oh and the rest of the film is pretty terrible as well.

The incongruous, overabundant CGI, the constant plot holes, the awful acting, the garish, desultory costume design, the unfunny comic relief, the misfired attempt at steampunk, the awkwardly-shoehorned-in airships, and the flat-out stupid dialogue add up to something that feels less like a film than a Square-Enix game, to say nothing of Planchet's disturbing treatment. But I won't deny that Paul WS Anderson can stumble on idle fun when his piles of clichés accidentally add up to fight scenes.

It's not that bad. It's not really good either. Great costumography & scenery plus a great and actually funny side cast (Waltz & co) save the movie from the horrendously cheesy plot that would have amazed even Jules Verne. Oh, and Bloom actually had a really great role fit for him and didn't annoy me at all! Main actors have no chemistry and are a big fail, but all in all I actually enjoyed the stupidness of it all - and who am I to reject Jovovich in a tight corset and no leg cover to speak of?

A great cast (Lerman's dopeyness is balanced by Macfadyen's gravitas), swashbuckling action sequences, and a devil-may-care adaptation full of adventurous charm (ironically more accurate than many more straightforward attempts) contribute to a terrifically entertaining picture. Funny, slick, and delightfully silly.

You get an impressive cast, some creativity in the adaptation, but most of all, very impressive sets, costumes, and designs. But it has no soul, it seems. The spy games end up being more interesting than many parts involving the titular characters, though most characters are still flat anyway.

W3E1P1S0V2M1A1R1. Such a shockingly gorgeous film and truly all-star cast wasted on inconsistent nonsense. As others have noted, the most annoying thing is that it vacillates between idiotic "air-ship" re-imagination and traditional cheesy tropes (either of which might have been great if committed to fully). I personally would have preferred just a straight reboot, as MacFayden is a stellar Athos, and the others are solid.

The Three Musketeers is a horrible, horrible film. I was hoping this would be fun for the whole family like the POTC, but I was bored to tears and couldn't believe how many decent actors where disgracing themselves. I can't believe the likes of Waltz & Mikkelsen got involved in this mess. The set pieces are all absolutely ridiculous and the actual musketeers have no chemistry whatsoever. The material is tired and I just cannot believe how underwhelmed I was. A complete waste of time and money.

D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman) leaves his home in rural France to fulfill his ambition of becoming one of the king's elite guardsmen, the Musketeers. In Paris he meets Athos (Matthew MacFadyen), Porthos (Ray Stevenson) and Aramis (Luke Evans) -- three of the king's finest swordsmen, who have been laid low by Milady De Winter's (Milla Jovovich) betrayal. D'Artagnan rallies his new friends to foil Cardinal Richelieu's (Christoph Waltz) plot to overthrow the monarchy and crown himself king of France.

Horses, swords, muskets, and chivalry is too boring. Hence we need airships, Resident-Evil-like acrobatic triple somersaults, and grand explosions. While being mindlessly fun at times, it is yet another Bay-esque / Resident Evil film borrowing the looks but exhibiting none of the things that truly make the Three Musketeers the Three Musketeers.

I don't know what I should have expected. Paul W.S. Anderson isn't a likely choice to handle an adaptation of classic literature. It really is a bastardized version of Dumas's story. All of the piled on action sequences are just absurd. This movie is clunky and it looks visually awful.

Not much to say about this movie. It was pretty average. I thought that the costumes were really cool in this and some of the scenes of swordplay and action sequences were done really well. The story itself was pretty bland though, focusing on just a singular mission of the Musketeers. They didn't even really bother to spend any time doing any sort of character development. This is a fine movie if you are just passing the time but I wouldn't really recommend it at all... better movies to see.

The Three Musketeers is a complete waste of time and energy, and is the worst film that Paul W.S. Anderson has ever directed. It's campy and silly, sure, but it's no fun and it's missing a hook, something to compel us and give us something to hold onto. It has a good cast whose members are told to be as goofy as possible, and is another Musketeers film that largely ignores the heroes of lore, instead deciding to make them side characters in their own story.

First things first: Watch the far superior 1973 version instead of this. That is a great movie... This on the other hand... wasn't as bad, as I was let to believe. Moronic, sure, and directed by W.S. Anderson (the worst thing to come out of the UK since marmite), but as a comic book style, tongue-in-cheek time waster, it was entertaining enough.
