I really didn't expect much from this movie and I tried resisting the corny romantic storyline. However, I failed. Miserably. Perhaps it's because I'm a chick and therefore my genetic dispotion makes me inclined to liking chick flicks...or perhaps it was because Bana and McAdams managed to create a poignant snapshot of a love that overcomes many challenging obstacles? Either way, I cried like a baby.

The script reminded me of 'The Lake House' in that, instead of focusing on the particulars of time travel, the concept is used as a gimmick. Which is fine, as the situations it allows for are interesting. Schwendtke's direction, though, is often uninspired. Which is too bad, because you just cannot hire more likeable leads than McAdams and Bana.

I didnt like the focus of this movie and the 'hero' of the story seemed to be nothing special - except for his innate ability/disability to jump through time. The story was very weak and characterization of almost all of the main cast was quasi non-existent (with one exception: The female lead). Who are these people?

Nicely photographed film... but being as it's about time travel, and future events are known, it does end up being a bit undramatic and hollow. I remember the book also had that problem, but the book also had the ability to confuse, surprise, amaze and enthrall with its creativity. The movie is not really directed in a creative way at all - which it perhaps needed to be. It's too middle-of-the-road, bland, and trying to tell a complex story rather than making some magic.

The novel took up residence in my brain for days after I read it, I mulled the premise of these two ill fated lovers' difficulties over and over again. The movie just felt too rushed to give the premise its due. I was pretty let down but still enjoyed it being a fan of seeing any book I love on screen.

Just terrible. McAdam's is awful, which is nothing new, but Bana's crappy performance is somewhat of a surprise, and he gives off the feel of an actor who knew the movie he is in was going to be shit! The structure is messy and inexplicable, the script is a turgid mess, and the characters reactions to situations and events are laughable. How did I even have a PSI of 53 for this!? Couldn't even finish it. Pure diarrhoea.

The time travelling aspect of the movie and all the possible complications thereof are completely lacking in this movie. Everything is so just that it fits the love story nicely. Saying that he can't influence the past, because it happens anyway was the stupidest line I have heard in a long time - he is influencing past and future throughout the movie with no consequences whatsoever (except those related to the story.) Too superficial to be enjoyable.

Very Good. Sometimes a film asking for a suspension of disbelief is not such a bad thing 'cause a good fable will, for a short time, make you believe in true love and magic and fate and time travelers. The male lead's performance may be just decent but the execution of the idea, almost as unique as district 9, is flawless, awes you with something new and extraordinary. May need a mature mind to enjoy it though. Very highly recommended.

Does raise the excellent question of just how a relationship plays out if the two people involved first met each other at completely different times in their lives. Then it ignores that question, irons over any egregiously portrayed character motivations with little effort and focuses on mundane drama, near-pointless relationship turns that are as predictable as they are uninteresting and which make the film's would-be powerful ending nothing but annoying.

Interesting enough concept, but the relationship never felt real. Maybe I just had a hard time getting past the fact that the romance started when a ten-year-old girl met a naked adult in the meadow behind her house.

The Time Traveler's Wife is primarily a romance story that neglects the nuance of time travel and oddly human behaviour. The film hinges on the relationship which didn't work for me as it comes off too creepy initially and then never shakes that feeling. The film also suffers from a lack of focus, constantly throwing in plot elements that could be much bigger before quickly pushing them aside. Despite the themes not working, it is a well-polished film.

Enjoyable movie with a premise more interesting than the execution. The time traveling is more a plot device for the romance and drama than the true focus of the story, which would be fine, except that the time travel is well set up and interesting, while the romance is somewhat creepy and the drama unexplored. Still, it's well paced and has good performances so it holds your interest despite never fulfilling its potential.

Incredibly pretentious story, but has Rachel McAdams ever been more lovely or desirable? She is absolutely gorgeous in this. Eric Bana was also good. The plot is twisted around like a pretzel, and you have to shed your intelligence to buy any part of it, but if you can get past that, it is a heartwarming story about the power of love.

Don't expect your run of the mill chick flick. In fact, once the romance is taken care of in the first half of the film, it quickly descends into a deep and dark drama about mortality and loneliness. Performances all around are fantastic and the film was wonderfully shot and well written. Tearjerker warning.

It's still creepy. Like "P.S. I Love You" creepy. But at least McAdams is gorgeous. Sometimes it didn't feel enough to just have Bana with or without grey hair to denote which "Henry" we were seeing, old or new, and the soundtrack was at the same time very fitting (ie. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division - performed by Broken Social Scene in the movie), and very cliche and expected (ie. "Clocks" by Coldplay, every fuckin romance movie needs "Clocks" in it). The high point was the daughter.

The time travel construct wasn't coherent it jumped from uniformity (everything that was going to happen happened the first time it was experienced by anyone) to update (when you go back in time it changes the affected sequences). It ha it's good moments and it had it's bad (like his death-umm, he steals stuff all the time, why wouldn't he get shot by a cop or just the wrong victim) but over all the film was pretty good.

Pretty much every character in the movie is devoid of personality. On the few occasions that people start to act a little less bland, they seem to be acting contrary to what you'd expect. The real draw here is the plot itself. Certainly not the unique characters and memorable acting. It's basically like the characters are all vessels for the plot, not really supplementing it.

Ironically, like its protagonist, it's too busy skipping randomly through time. Schwentke's mediocre talent is painfully at display here, as he's not capable of adapting the heartbreaking novel for the silver screen. He seemingly looses focus resulting in some uninteresting scenes ("Henry getting a haircut" is particularly indifferent). Also he has no sense of building tension, leaving the story with a flat, Disneyfied feel, not helped by a generic Hallmarkish score and McAdam's princess looks.

I haven't read the source novel and I can still sense how crammed the material is. While "Time Traveler" offers good actors in a very intriguing premise, the emotional impact is paper-thin. The movie throws these characters with little background information at the audience from the get-go, and an awkward sci-fi romance fires away as pieces of a whole narrative without ever reaching its intended effect. All that to say, however, I was invested in the actors trying so very hard.

The Time Traveler's Wife is a mess, one that makes little sense and is even less likely to resonate with an audience. If you've read the book, you're better off reading the book again than watching the movie even once. It fails because the screenplay didn't do a good job of adapting a fairly complicated story. It contradicts itself, doesn't follow its own rules, is too unhappy to provide any joy, and is borderline creepy. I did not enjoy this movie.

Abysmal, completely wrong-headed 'romance' may have worked better on the page, where the mystical connection between Bana and McAdams may have played more ethereally and less literally; in adapting the story to film, the unsettling, pedophilic nature of the relationship is thrown front and centre and is a serious liability the film can't shake off. Outside of that, the romance itself is pretty drippy stuff, and borders on sick obsession rather than a genuine connection. The stars do their best.

The idea of the movie was intrigue: you've got a epileptic disease, you travel in time you cannot control. What a variety of fields to study with it. Unfortunately the script was poorly written and all possibilities were overruled by a romantic story. The plot was full of holes and broken inner logic. And effects from 1990 Ghost. Executive producer was Brad Pitt.

The movie lacks a strong script and a story line. It seems lacking and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. It doesnt bring out the complexity in the relationship that is brought about by a person being absent. The movie is in no way sci-fi and fails as a romantic drama. I believe that movie could have been better made if it was better adapted.

This film does a very poor job of even telling its story. It simply goes all over the map, both story wise and layout wise. The rules to the time travel are unclear and everything seems to be way too convoluted and pointless for this film to make sense. The acting was a tad low key and boring, Bana sounded way too happy and McAdams failed to convince of how hard living with a time travelling companion would be. Really a 20 year old version a 35 year old version and a 40 year old version. Really?
