The Toolbox Murders

A bit sleazy and showing some potential at the outset, but it quickly descended into something rather boring, and lacking the charm and style of the better entries in the crap killer canon. The acting and music were particular lowlights. Very difficult to recommend.

The idea behind it is terrifying, but holy shit Dennis Donnelly has no idea what he's doing. The first half hour of the movie is just nonstop shenanigans and you're going "uh oh!" then after that we follow the two worst actors in history as they try to solve the mystery, but the thing is we know who the killer is after that 1/2 hour while they're bumbling along. YOU DONT DO THAT DONNELLY.

Very odd film that packs most of its punch in its grisly opening sequence of murders (the killer does, in fact, make good use of the variety in his eponymous kit), then the pace drastically slows as the dimwitted characters try to solve the case, and ultimately the movie wallows in some pretty depraved and implausible sadism during the finale. Not very appealing

Very front-loaded kills and then just hits a brick wall in terms of pacing, when it really over-explains the motivations behind the killer. Fav scene: pretty cool ending with an unexpected death of the brother and then the horror continues with the rape. I wish they showed the stabbing...I understand hinting and tension-building, but if that was already accomplished with the slow focus on the scissors, then give us the benefit of her stabbing the dude!

I found this film to be extremely average and forgettable.

It's not scary in any way, and all the good kills are done within the first half hour, after that there's basically nothing here worth watching. I did dig the whole ending bit though, you know where he "saves" the chick.

Memorably sleazy slasher fare, with a good Cameron Mitchell performance. Grimy and gritty.

Amateurish video nasty. Some of the acting is so bad, that it terrifies more than gore shown. Fist half is spent showing boobs and killing, and in the second half there's attempt to develop some kind of story.

The first half is skin crawling in a good disturbing and creepy way, then the movie falls apart in the last act.

It honestly starts off with a lot of promise, with the initial kill sequences being grizzly & effective- if also gratuitous & sleazy. But then it decides to turn from slasher film to low-rent melodramatic thriller with flat characters, terrible dialogue, & twists so easy to call it's laughable. The ending is cheap, unsatisfying & inexcusably lame, especially given what comes before it. The pacing drags something awful. Despite its reputation, this is really not too special or too good.
