This dramatization of the 48 hours leading up to the Battle of the Somme in 1916 underscores the bitter loss of innocence of a group of idealistic young men, including 17-year-old Billy Macfarlane who's enlisted in order to be with his older brother, Eddie. But Eddie's sent home after being wounded, leaving his innocent brother behind to face the slow, inevitable countdown to the bloodiest massacre in British military history.

why don't they run though? Joke aside, it seemed like it was aiming at making you feel the tension and horror of war, but the set was so clean and most issues so trivial that it didn't feel that way for most of the movie. Even Titanic had more foreshadowing and horror than what was supposed to be the bloodiest battle of WW1, UK-wise

James Bond stands to. Good cast, reasonable film.

A dated type of war movie focusing heavily on dialog and pushing all the real horror of war off screen. I'd like to cut this one a break for an early appearance of Craig, yet, it was just too damned boring to get any enjoyment out of.
