The Trip to Greece

We enjoy these even more now since we can't travel and can't go out to eat.

There is nothing left to say in "The Trip" series, even Spain was stretching it. At this point it's coasting on the cinematography and Coogan getting fed up with Brydon's horrific Pacino impression. If this is to continue, raise the stakes and make it a survival horror in the DRC.

The same as usual in this series, and the diminishing returns returns, but if you enjoy this series then you'll at least enjoy what this has to offer -- not changing its set-up in this series, for better or worse. There's a semblance of characterisation here, as there always is with these films, but it's mostly about the banter, location, food, drives, and impersonations.

In some ways, as slight as can be, but I appreciate this installment the most, as I think it's the most successful of any of the films at contrasting the silliness of the premise with the harder realities of life (similar to how the first was so good at striking a balance between silliness and the beauty of the food). The final montage drives this contrast home beautifully, with Max Richter and a sense of appreciating the joys of life because we know harder times are coming.

The fourth installment feels like a trip too many. The biggest strength of these movies were always the humorous banter; in The Trip to Greece it feels somewhat sidelined for more ponderous drama. Ironically, the series has ended up way too much like the pretensious movies Coogan dreams of making. What does keep improving is the cinematography, which really peaked with this installment.

I really enjoy these

I strongly maintain that these films are stronger for their similarity. Like, my fiancée puts up with me telling the same three or four jokes again and again, when we go out with our friends. On some level, she definitely minds, but on another, she doesn't.

This entire series got slightly less funny with each movie, but the sites got better and better. I honestly would watch another one, but I'm also glad they are ending here.

On a meta-level, it grapples with the sense of an end that's already come and gone. We're now living in the haze of an aftermath of witticisms, luxury food, hysterical (literally) imitations, and glorious landscapes. The flipside is death. So... "already enjoying"
