I thought it established itself very well but it leans into her madness as soon as she arrives and doesn't let the audience play with any other reality. Shot very well and featured some impressive visuals (until they go for full titillation). It's a Julian Sands tribute week and I've always crushed on Patsy Kensit so I'll call this a successful viewing. Not really recommended unless you have other things to do towards the end.

Quite differently from usual for adaptations of this type, this movie is set in the 1960s. The loving recreation of the 60s that we see in the beginning, believe it or not, is the best part of the movie. Then when we go to the estate and get down to the business of all the boo-stuff, it just completely runs out of steam. English ghost stories have their cliches, too, and while they're still better pound for pound than '80s slasher movies, this one shouldn't get special treatment
