Not sure why this is trashed by critics. A totally reasonable and entertaining version of "The Turn of the Screw", with an ambiguous ending.

This movie is entirely perplexing to me. I don't get what it was trying to do with the time period. I don't get what it was trying to say about the kids. I don't get why it felt like that ending was satisfying to anyone. People in my theater literally screamed "That's it?" and I couldn't agree more.

Almost undoes all the good faith it built up in the first two thirds. Works hard to build a very tense atmosphere and just lets it go a little far of the rails in the end. Surprisingly, it's pretty well shot and looks downright great in parts. We need to have a talk about white characters taking these jobs you wouldn't catch a person like me in for a minute.

Just because Mackenzie Davis was dressed like a Mitski fan doesn't mean you need to have mitski playing in a movie set in 1994. Stupid fun. Like all modern horror ignore the haters

Mitski in 1994? I know i'm not the best judge of this film because I couldn't help but compare it to The Innocents, which is vastly better, and scarier all the way through. However I had high hopes for The Turning and the opening scenes set up such a good atmosphere that the complete ruin of that was an intense disappointment.

There are crumbs of a good horror movie embedded in this cake of gothic shite. Sigismondi just couldn't pick a lane. This should have either been a crime mystery drama or a supernatural haunted house flick. Now it tries to be kinda both. Biggest offender is the ending that satisfies absolutely no-one. Wether you thought the ghosts were real, or if it was a hoax or if she was just crazy all along. The ending gambits on one of those options and pretty much handles it in the worst way possible.

The Turning seems to take all of its inspiration from Oz Perkins' sleepy white noise of a film I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House. Except, even though I disliked Perkins haunted house flick, I relented and admitted it had atmosphere. The Turning doesn't even have that, despite desperately attempting it through footage of these gothic grounds and foggy gardens. No need for me to waste more words on this, no need for anyone to watch this.

This is the most obnoxiously pointless film I've seen in a while. These are empty, flat characters without motivation and it's a story without any specific direction or purpose. The ending is weird because the story was never going anywhere and the writers didn't even know what to do, so they use a scapegoat under the guise that it's "crazy". Yeah, no. It's just dumb. Biased Score: 16% | Unbiased Score: 38% | Criticker Prediction: 53% (Fails in every department)

Fairly creepy and watchable though it gets more and more silly along the way.

I guess it's "watchable", but there's nothing about it that makes it worth it. It also has literally one of the shittiest endings i've ever seen, right next to The Devil Inside's ending.
