The Turning Point

Another one of those taking-down-the-syndicate movies. I don't really care much for these, there's an awful lot of them and they're all kinda same-y. I like my noir to be more personal, claustrophobic stories. But this one was pretty good, it had a couple of interesting plot points and a darker edge. Excellent lead performances, supported by some greats like Ed Begley and Ted DeCorsia. The direction isn't brilliant, but it's more than competent. No significant flaws, an all-around good flick.

Cops, reporters and gangsters, this sure is noir. I'll probably forget this soon enough, there isn't really a standout scene or performance here, but there's nothing wrong with any of it either. It's a fun briskly paced investigation noir with three solid leads a solid narrative.

Como todo Dieterle, não decepciona, exceto pela derradeira frase final de Edmond O'Brian à respeito da lei que todos sabemos é tão corrupta quanto qualquer outro poder. Fora esse balde de água fria que podemos culpar aos resquícios do código Hays que já estava em decadência em 1952, é um puta filme e coloco a minha mão no fogo para garantir que influenciou os chefões do Coppola.
