I don't know how much comes from the novel, but alot was unexpected to me. Even though the resolution is anti-climactic; it's unclear exactly how some of the talks on duality are meant to resonate in real life; & the implication that Jekyll's misanthropy comes from his own loneliness should've been played up more, this is yet another surprising Hammer remake. Hyde doesn't look evil so you get a real sociopath & there's a surprising amount of libertine sexuality throughout & not just from Hyde.

Starts a bit wobbly (featuring maybe the most ridiculous music to accompany titles that I've ever heard), but then heats up considerably when Hyde makes his appearance. Massie as Hyde is very good indeed, and Lee makes for a nice slimepot. Addams is excellent as the vixenish wife. Got a bit out of hand toward the end, or I would've scored it higher.

Better than average version of a far too oft-told story.

Easily the funniest adaptation of "The Nutty Professor" I've ever seen!

Christopher Lee had some great lines but otherwise this was a silly, spooky british melodrama. "Go to Hades" indeed!

Like disappointingly many Hammer films, this one had many interesting ideas executed shoddily. The leading man was also rather unconvincing in both of his roles.

At first I was a bit thrown off by the film's approach, but it's actually not a bad take on the Jekyll and Hyde concept. The supporting cast does a fine job and the film teases that it will be more daring than previous adaptations. But it chickens out and, combined with a rather underwhelming lead who doesn't sell either Jekyll or Hyde as interesting characters, the film reeks of unfulfilled potential and is merely interesting but flawed.

As usual, Terence Fisher does not disappoint. This oft-told Robert Louis Stevenson tale is buoyed by Paul Massie's impressive dual performance. Indeed, it relies more on dramatic acting and imagination than gore or special effects. Atmospheric and visually arresting, this is a quality Hammer production, which conveys some deep philosophical insight as well.

More drama than horror and Hyde is pretty tame even by '50s-'60s standards the acting was quite good all around. I was just hoping for something more.

Didn't quite get this take on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. A Hammer film.

Box Obras-primas do Cinema Estúdio Hammer Volume 4.

This Jekyll ends up having an almost Dorian Gray quality about him. He's not a monster as he's typically portrayed on film, but rather a conscienceless dandy who delights in doing bad things. While Jekyll goes through the motions of trying to stop him, you get the distinct sense that he also gets a thrill out of letting Hyde act out his resentments.
