Despite feeling overly familiar and having some character moments which fall short dramatically, it's a nice and simple thriller with decent enough performances. The best two things about it: the cinematography and the score.

Watchable and some moments of strength. Overall this fell flat, father-son chemistry and even wife-lover chemistry was absolutely not there. Could have had a threesome instead. The repeated labyrinth/minotaur references appeared intended as some symbolic undercurrent to the character arcs, but even with my knowledge of the mythos, I couldn't make the link.

It was entertaining and was vague enough to make you think that there was something going on when there unfortunately wasn't. The problem with the movie is that Viggo's character is presumably smart via ripping off a bunch of rich people but yet constantly makes poor decisions to the point where it just becomes absurd. I still liked it because it's beautifully shot and well acted with a decent story but the writing is sometimes too convenient and thus it takes you out of the story.

Nice-looking little drama with some neat, tense sequences and strong performances. Falls short of greatness thanks to a very familiar plot and occasional dearth of suspense.

Intriguing to begin with, but it all got a little ho-hum by the end. Pleasant to look at though...

This film has a very simple simple story but it definitely delivers. The performances are great and the story moves along quick enough that it doesn't become tedious and boring. I enjoyed the relationships between the 3 actors with some of the more dialogue heavy moments being a highlight. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a decent thriller with a compelling story!

Entertaining, if heavy-handed. I didn't think the ending quite matched how the characters were developed.

A classic cinema feeling. Has an unoriginal love triangle and climax.

For the most part Amini's debut is a sleek, well directed thriller which at its best echoes Hitchockian tensions. The Two Faces of January promises a lot with interesting and intricate character dynamics but unfortunately comes unstuck on the final act, as the plot begins to resemble the crumbling ruins around which its set.

stylish & well done. particularly liked the cinematography & music. the story might be predictable or unoriginal, but I loved the nod to the classic days of cinema.

Underwhelming thriller, which echoes the Mediterranean setting, love triangle, and precocious stranger of Patricia Highsmith's more famous work, The Talented Mr Ripley, but doesn't capture the magic of Minghella's film. This vision of Crete is monochromatic and anonymous, while the characters are equally forgettable. There's a little tension and paranoia, but hardly enough to keep the audience perched. These three actors should be able to light it up, but they aren't kept together long enough.

Never develops a tone, or i'm just incredibly limited. To me, it's just too all over the place. Maybe it gets better once you consider it a thriller right from the start and stick with it.

Dull, unimaginative script & a haggard looking Kirsten Dunst...not exactly a world-beating combination

Pretty good thriller, with solid performances. It's nothing remarkable in any way, but due to the atmosphere and especially the music, it feels like an old thriller/drama from the earlier days of cinema. It's got decent enough drama and suspense all the way through, and it's shot well.

I couldn't find anything exceptionally clever about this movie. My expectations were probably too high, and I just kept waiting for some sort of reveal. Oh well.

This film has a good script. there are some genuine surprises in the script, which is really pleasant. The 3 main leads do a good job with their respective roles in this film. Overall I would recommend this movie.

The aesthetics are sharp and some of the interplay is fairly interesting, but as a whole it is kind of bland (despite the score and scenery) and overly familiar. It wears its Hitchcockian influences on its sleeve, but doesn't live up to that pedigree. The final third is quite good, though, and not predictable.

I love Viggo and Oscar Isaac so I think it says something that this movie makes them look like worse actors than they are. This is not to say they don't give good performances here, both do, but the director doesn't get nearly their best work out of them. The story is focused in close on the three characters you see on the poster, to the exclusion of any other memorable or developed characters and, despite this, I feel the screenplay doesn't give us the deepest look at any of them.

good cinematography, good actors and a terrible script... far from being a thriller (apart from the music)... Istanbul scenes are impressive

A completely by the numbers thriller that is saved from total mediocrity by strong performances from the main cast, specially Isaac. Nothing more to say because there's nothing more to it!

Some may say this is an unremarkable film, but I think it serves a very important function of continuing a vital tradition of well-plotted, well-styled and perfectly-acted thrillers tracing back to the early days of cinema. Films don't always need to be groundbreaking - just well made and well-acted.

A solid thriller with Mortensen, Dunst and Isaac all serviceable. The locations (in particular Crete) are the best aspect of the film
