The Unborn

Cinematic Proverb #273: Choose not a movie based on the poster, lest ye suffer the pain of a thousand knees to the nads. If you, for some reason, have made plans to watch the Unborn, abort them. Abstinence is the only choice.

Recycles all the clichés possible from the great classics, but fails to deliver on any level. The story with the nazis and the Holocaus is simply ridiculous. But wait, is that a camel toe? I guess my hour and a half wasn't a total waste!

There's not much to salvage from the mess of a script, which falls even below the standards of the teen horror genre. Goyer seems to have thrown in the cornucopia of horror cliches without having a context to justify them (children that talk to dead people, demonic possession, dream sequences) all in an effort to cover the lack of actual plot development. Terrible acting, story logic, pacing, sound editing. Barely passable special effects and photography.

Not that I was expecting something great but this is just retarded trash. Bad acting, bad pacing a ridiculous story and the ending was as predictable as it was dumb.

A young and good looking girl with long hair but not much acting skills, an infant ghost, creatures from beyond, Kabbalah, twins, Nazis. What do you expect?

The biggest crime this movie commits is, that while having some awesome scare factors, they are implemented in a way that both minimizes their scariness and screen time. Other than that, all the cliches and anything else deplorable is forgivable, if not easily ignored.

The Unborn is way better than the typical hot-girl-in-a-horror-movie fare. The story is interesting, it is explored relatively well--although it could have still been fleshed out a bit--the acting for the most part is fine and it has decent pacing that will at the very least keep you intrigued. I am actually shocked by how much I liked The Unborn and would strongly recommend it to fans of this type of movie.

If you smile in scenes in which you should actually terrified,then there is something wrong with the movie or yourself. Seriously, how did Gary Oldman ended up in this movie? That would be a more interesting story than this one.

I feel the only way to cleanse the world is to murder everyone involved with this film...though, the girl is quite hot. Damn you hollywood, your cheap tricks win again!

Wow...this movie made me an anti-semite. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. It was a bunch of movie trailers put together and edited very badly. I shouldn't be playing 20 questions 2 minutes into a movie. Screw this shit.

Very poor film.

The Unborn is a lot more sophisticated and complicated to follow than the average teenage screamfest. Backed-up by endlessly alarming jump-out scares and marred by equally unnerving, scary moments, The Unborn is directed by the very man that produced the modern-day masterpiece of last year known as The Dark Knight, and his determination has lead up to this: a well-done horror film. However, it's pacing is slow and even though it explores it's concept relatively well, it comes off as a bit silly.

While The Unborn wasn't offensively terrible like I thought it would be, it is rather bland, not scary, insanely predictable and even though she's great (heterochromic) eye candy, Yustman just doesn't have the chops to carry a film on her own. Nothing about it is particularly awful though. The old man was kinda creepy though, even if it was a straight Kayako lift.

Captured souls, exorcism and many other bull shits... Is isn't worth to spend time to watch!

Michael Bay strikes again! The plot was stupid, the character's reactions were unrealistic and it seemed the writers were making things up as they went along. There was a scene in the end where the boyfriend is getting the girl out of the EMT bed that was out of sequence chronologically. The acting was bad, the jokes were bad, the 'horror' was bad, this movie was bad.

Odette Yustman sucks at acting, but she's super hot!

I can forgive a lot of flaws in a horror movie if I'm actually scared, but this one just has a bunch of predictable jump scenes that actually detract from the atmosphere instead of using it to their advantage. It was like I was constantly being taken out of the (admittedly not all that enjoyable) experience because of the jump scenes, and they weren't even startling in this case, as you could call them every time they were about to happen. I can't think of anything worth praise.

Just really fucking forgettable. Hot girl, I really like Idris Elba (mainly cuz of the Wire) and Gary Oldman is cool. It has an occasional inspired moment. Too many cheap scares, an unbelievable script (draw me into your movie universe), some really stupid scenes. But at least we get girl in underwear.

Bland, unscary "horror". Even Gary Oldman and Idris Elba performing a hybrid Jewish/Christian exorcism on the director couldn't save this one... #1EuroBluRay

The main girl is so boring I almost stopped watching it, but there are some good jumps and a couple of good actors hiding away in there.

I could watch Odette Yustman all day, but I hope I never watch this again. The Jewish mythology and pregnancy metaphor stuff were alright... but the acting, the script, the story's ending, all were very poor. Gary Oldman should not play rabbis and Idris Elba should not play exorcists. David S. Goyer should not steal his scenes from previous horror films.

Appaling in too many ways to list here. The acting, the editing, the shameless exploitation of the holocaust... the list goes on.

A well-meaning horror movie, not as reliant on jump scares as many others. The script is decent. The casting, though, is hit-or-miss, and it isn't helped by weak direction and predictable editing. You can tell that there's good stuff in here, but it's like eating badly cooked food. It's a lot of "not quite." Still, it's good to see a creepy-kid-horror-movie in which the kid is genuinely creepy and threatening. It's also good to see some familiar faces from The Wire and Dexter.

"Borrows" from many better movies and the acting is sometimes questionable, but overall not as bad as people are saying. Of course, I wasn't aware Michael Bay was a producer until after the movie, so I suspect this prejudice is where many of the poor ratings are coming from.

This movie actually started out very creepy in the beginning, but then the movie really started to fall flat and that is a shame because this was a pretty decent cast that was involved with this. The special effects were also much better than I thought they would be as well. Still, except for the beginning this movie is kind of a waste.

I am way in the minority about this one I guess. Odette Annable is gorgeous, the film is gorgeous to look at, it's a very decadent treat. I want to pay ten or 15 dollars to watch it in a huge theater with state-of-the-art picture and sound while drinking a big coffee drink with mounds of whipped cream. It's a Jewish exorcism movie (about a dybbuk) which is pretty fun, especially with Gary Oldman, of all fucking people, as a rabbi.

this is supposed to be a new take on the possessed baby movie..its horrible..its so poorly acted and the scares were so by the numbers and not original it did get points for a few mins that i thought it would pick up

Simply put--this movie is not scary and it is not interesting.

Watched it for Gary Oldman, and there sure was not enough of him.

I cannot understand why Gary Oldman accepted the role in this movie. If his character had, let's say, 20 more minutes of on-screen time, it would've made this movie a lot better. Also, a horror movie is NOT about "creepy" CGIs hiding behind every second corner.
