Pleasant, amiable buddy movie feels like a lighter-touch version of THE BUCKET LIST, relying largely on the chemistry between Cranston, Hart and (an underused) Kidman to smooth over the contrivances and sometimes too-obvious humour (though Cranston's typically droll work adds a lot here). Nice soundtrack leaning heavily on Aretha Franklin is a plus, but does fall into the trap of evoking the most middle-of-the-road classical as a shorthand way to classify a character (or situation) as "fancy"!

How does a movie with a cast like this, an excellent preview, an R/T audience score of 89%, and the enthusiastic reaction from me and the nearly packed 2000 seat theater I saw it in, end up with 40% from R/T critics and a 5.1 from IMDb? I smell a bi-polar rat.

Nice drama (with some comedy) and one of the best roles Kevin Hart has done.

A not so solid remake of the French cult classic "Intouchables", based on a true story. The story is completely "Americanised" and though a similar plot, the story gets lost in the remake. Just to be completely clear: the story was never supposed be a comedy, it should be a drama with comedic elements, not a comedy with poor dramatic elements (like this movie is). Both Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston definitely underperformed in this movie. "Alexa, turn off the movie!"

A solid movie, I do prefer the Intouchables better. A French film based off the real lives of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and Abdel Sellou in 2011. But I think Kevin Hart brought the movie to more of a comedy then the original. Bryan Cranston also did a fantastic job. Also, wish the part of Kevin Hart was played by a muslim, just like the real life story. But, I think Kevin Harts performance is unbeatable.

Based on a true story The Upside is a feel good story about the unlikely friendship the two men develop Kevin Hart surprised me in this role,..Yes he's still funny but it's more subdued , then his usual "Angry Little Man" routine

Solid, respectful remake with a fine chemistry between Hart and Cranston.

Sweet movie that seems underrated by critics. Seems like most of the criticism stems from those who say the original foreign movie was better...while I am guilty of making comparisons to other interpretations or for docking points for wasted potential sometimes, other times it just comes across as snobbish. Nicole Kidman had very great facial expressions. Kevin Hart could have played less of a trope. Great bookends with the wind gliding. Fav scenes: shower and first time high Bryan Cranston.

I expected this to be a poor remake but it was surprisingly good. I've seen the original French film and I felt this was a good version. Bryan Cranston is a surprisingly versatile actor I find. I'm not a big fan of Kevin Hart but he was alright in this and Nicole Kidman does well too.

Fuck Kevin Hart. He could have the cure for cancer and I would still never go see him. Bryan Cranston should have picked a better costar.

I can sort of get behind the ideals this is conveying, but this seems more like a formulaic Kevin Hart comedy masquerading as an emotionally manipulative trauma drama... or vice versa. Bryan Cranston is always a joy to watch, but this lacks any dramatic (or comedic) base to stand on, leaving only a few entertaining scenes in the final product.

I rather enjoyed The Upside, much to my own surprise. “Based on a true story”, this adaptation puts more emphasis on the comedy and given the cast, this works in its favour. Ultimately it’s an uplifting fantasy, where rich and poor, black/white, learn from each other and grow as humans. Cranston was great, but so was Hart who delivers his usual slapstick (we’d be disappointed if he didn’t) but also steps up to deliver the drama as well. Cheesy yet entertaining.

Yes it is a little cliche as far as the Dell character is concerned but still a very enjoyable film with some powerful moments.

Kendini iyi hisset filmi. Evet evet evet

Not as funny as I thought it would be, but to make it all fit right, it seems the right choice. Just don't expect a comedy

It carries a certain heavy feeling through out. Both Hart's Dell and Cranston's Phil come with their own past and their own set of circumstances that ultimately bring them together. While it does keep the plot simple and closely guarded it does work thanks to the power of the actors and all those involved in bringing the story to life. A solid film with a great trio of performances that won't disappoint if this is the type of film you enjoy.

An unnecessary remake. If you want to just "copy" someone else's work at least do it slightly better.

Stick with the original French version. But the story is still worth the watch - even in this version. *Recommendable
