Despite the odd comedy from the hypochondriac aunt character, the movie plays like a "whodunit" that mixes basic elements of "Dracula"(1931) and "Frankenstein"(1931). With the help of a handful of recognizable names and faces, this early 30's poverty row "quickie" makes for a solid horror/mystery B-movie watch for genre fans.

Significantly better than 'The Devil Bat'. A genuinely creepy film with an interesting, albeit simple, plot that is brought to life with sets, costumes and lighting that create an atmosphere that manifests vampires (even if just in the imagination). The cast all fully embrace their roles, in particular Dwight Frye as the town simpleton who is the subject of a vampire hunt (it turns out a vampire hunt is just as bad as a witch hunt).

Dwight Frye phones it in a bit, but Fay Wray is awesome. One of the best Poverty Row horror films.

An uneven film with a lackluster ending. The mystery aspect along with the mob mentality scenes were great though.

Decent whodunit, but I was expecting more of a scary monster movie.

Title is misleading, movie is fairly decent 1930s horror with a lot of melodrama.

Hokey but fun '30s low-budgeter obviously patterned after both _Dracula_ and _Frankenstein_. No classic but enjoyable, with Frye, as a bat-loving loony, and Wray, as the imperiled heroine with the nerve to question Atwill's sanity, both in top form.

A fairly creepy vampire/mad professor story. Low budget, but still it creates a crazy world where a bunch of people get killed. Much thanks to a solid cast with Lionel Atwill being excellent as usual playing the scientist. This also features the lovely Fay Wray as well several known character actors to bring about the personality. This is definitely a merger between the Dracula and Frankenstein stories, so it should be a familiar concept for people. Worth your time if you love horror flicks.
