The Vanishing of Sidney Hall

This movie is as honest and original as the truth it portrays and the actors who portray it. A pearl of great worth before the critical swine. The 9% from Rotten Tomato's critics is criminally insane, but at least the audience there gets it.

It starts off a bit slow and seems like it's going to be just another run of the mill 'tortured genius' story, but if you're feeling patient, you'll see that this film is so much more. Above all else, the storytelling craft is exceptional. The way it perfectly unfolds three acts simultaneously to arrive at a poignant closure is pretty remarkable. Coupled with a stellar cast and crew, this ends up being a pretty great film. I can only imagine how jaded the negative reviews are.

This is a superb movie: thought provoking, sad, interesting, intriguing: a movie that requires the viewer to trust in it, to invest time & thought in it, and ultimately be rewarded by it. Whilst the 3 episodes of Sidney Halls life (the student, lover/writer, hermit) are a little confused (and perhaps could have been differentiated a bit better by the script) by the end of the film they come together perfectly. Logan, Fanning and the cast do an amazing job. This reminds me of the Burning Plain.

If you do not get touch by this movie then you are the psyco. Very emotive but besides that the Mystery there is just awesome and we do not get to know everything until almost the end. The way the three eras are intertwined... almost magic. Logan and Elle equally cute. I loved the "are you really a girl?" line.

I don't get why critics were so hard on this. Sure, it's not a perfect film by any means, but the (to me) inexplicable amount of hatred leveled at it seems ... I don't know ... mean, I guess.

I watched this mostly out of curiosity I thought it might be some type of remake of The Vanishing movies But whatever it's supposed to be had me sleeping 20 minutes in Bad Movie

Pretty actors giving adequate performances. The plot was a bit haphazard and unrealistic. They eventually revealed the scope of the tragedies that scarred the young writer and led him to a life of obscurity. Worth watching but not particularly rewarding.
