....what to think? There was a lot of plot holes which didn't seem all that plausibly. Simple solutions. But the strong point of the film was that director John Cromwell gives room for.... acting. We get quite deep into the vulnerability of Paul Lukas' character as he by blackmail becomes a stool pigeon framing prostitutes. And both ladies in his life help give life to his character. One of them being the popular Kay Francis. The other Judith Wood being a warming presence here.
