The cooler the VHS box looked at the video store the more disappointed you'd be when you finally worked up the courage to watch it.

Awesome poster, bad movie. And not awesome-bad, just mediocre-bad. At least the zombie makeup was cool.

Commendable in the way it attempts to do something different with the genre (zombies from the T.V., new rules about how to kill them, zombie with a chainsaw, etc). But it's not enough to overshadow the poor camera work, amateurish dialog, clunky story and atrocious acting. It's a valiant effort, but ultimately a letdown. This is one of those 80s horror movies whose greatest attribute is its exquisite VHS cover.

"The Video Dead" is one of those movies that, if it had maybe a better writer and a little more time put into it, could have been a good zombie flick. Unfortunately it didn't. So we end up with a lot of cheesy writing and some not terrible make up jobs. Only for those who love the zombie flicks and don't mind getting some cheese all over their face.

First things first, an actress continually says, "Jaff" when referring to a character named "Jeff." Does that really need to be first? Probably not but that's what stuck with me more than anything else. Secondly, I liked the zombie make-up. They did well. Third, movie sucks, you can skip it. Jaff.

Oddball 80's zom-com with hilarious characters such as: angry racecar driver zombie, david bowie zombie and chainsaw zombie bride!

This is special movie for me. I was lad of seven or eight, exposed to the 'western entertainment' for the first time with the help of pirate television broadcasting Russian dubbed VHS cassettes. I saw Batman and Police Academy, and many other films this way. But this one was the most terrifying movie I saw back then. I remember covering my eyes with hands and peeking through the web of fingers... I could only take it for the 5 minutes. Now I finally found this film again. It's kind of fun.

The monster makeup gets all ten of those points; however, the film was so poorly shot the ghouls ended up looking like especially gifted and committed Halloween partiers. Unwatchable, even for mockery purposes.

This is a total failure on almost every level, & in a way it's impressive. The acting is awful, the story is awful, the pacing is awful. The only thing that isn't awful is the practical effects work on the zombies, but even that's pretty sub-par. The premise has a lot of potential, but like so many low-budget horrors out there, the movie can never deliver on it. There's clearly some heart that went into this, but it's so incredibly incompetently made that there's still no reason to watch it.

Pretty terrible, especially the acting, but it's still oddly charming and entertaining.

I love this movie. Everything about this movie just works, from the bad but engaging acting & dialogue to the low budget special effects which are still used well. This movie is a ton of fun.

Funny? No. Scary? No. Stupid? Yes. 2nd Viewing: Actually it's kind of enjoyable on huge screen. Very bad acting (except for sister.). Dialoge is worse than even acting. But I increase my vote from 10 to 40 especially thanks to that ending. :)
