Fun early medieval romp with an amazingly camp battering ram aimed at a castle gate. Kirk Douglas succeeds in capturing the energetic vanity and lack of substance of young men, while Ernest Borgnine steals every scene he is in. Tony Curtis broods ever so successfully, in young men's other gambit, and Janet Leigh is sadly condemned to the typical 1950s position of women, locked up at home with all the answers and little to do. Also, a shout-out to the always entertaining Frank Thring.

Like Stacy Keach said in The Gravy Train, "Kirk Fuckin' Douglas". Kirk Fuckin' Douglas as a fucking Viking? Sign me the fuck up for that fucking shit.

Exceptional, undervalued pirate epic, with Douglas' gleeful hamming in the lead only matched by a wonderfully campy Thring in support. Borgnine and Curtis are more tempered by contrast, but all performers bring an infectious energy and vitality to Fleischer's expert staging. Gorgeous cinematography by the great Cardiff wraps things up nicely.

Kirk Douglas is pretty cool swinging a sword around, but that's about it.

Mr. Fleischer, you sleazeball! I dig that about you.

Mostly bad, though the on location photography in Norway was nice. Dreadful performances, a complete mess of a plot, irritatingly overblown musical score..

A great example of why I like old movies. This was a fun, star-studded big Hollywood production adventure.

I loved this when I saw it in the theater when I was ten years old. but that doesn't mean you have to watch it. Unless you like really cool swordfights, that is.

Historical adventure epic with Kirk Historical adventure epic with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis as...... Vikings. It has some enjoyable action sequences but too much time is wasted on the backstory, which is also not well-done. The plot is unneccesary convoluted and despite all the time given to them the main characters stay one-dimensiosal Vikings. Mario Bava's copy of this is much better and entertaining.

A too often overlooked gem from the era of historical epics. The final swordfight is incredibly awesome.

Sword fighting and lots of action, but a convoluted plot. Loved the waterfall they sailed past entering and leaving their home port. Nothing in "The Viking" seemed realistic, it needed a better script. Many people see movie as a great classic, guess I'm not one.

I really enjoyed this movie. Beautiful set design, a great cast, and a very engaging and exciting story. Kirk Douglas has so much charisma, and Janet Leigh is just gorgeous. Watching the vikings' dangerous and rambunctious parties was also quite fun.

its a simple, old school action flick with some nice scenery. i had fun with it. there's a boarding party fight on a boat that's a bit cheesy, but the final climax was less so and i liked it. story might be a bit simple, but i got into it just fine. kirk douglas should have had a beard in this, seriously.
