The Visitors

It deals with a time paradox problem regarding the ring theme in a quite funny way. Jean Reno acts dignified as always, but he has a good reason to do it at last ;) Although they sometimes exaggerate with face making and reactions in general (except Béatrice, who is kind of dull and overly patient), it's still enjoyable to watch - especially when they are getting used to modern inventions.

It's still funny every time I rewatch it, so I guess this makes it kind of a timeless classic of french comedy. Also more clever of a movie than it seems, it does handle the whole time travel/paradox thing better than some serious movies.

It had great moments and I really like Clavier as an actor. The idea is quite cool actually; but it falters in execution. Particlarly LeMercier's character was very weak compared to the other leads. Also it fall to much into the easy routine of "people in the past were disgusting". My favourite part was LeMercier's husband's hysterical reactions to the time travelling visitors.

Borderline unwatchable "comedy", frantically and loudly overacted and overdone, with scarce laughs to be found once the one-joke premise is established. Flashes of humour here and there buried beneath increasingly elaborate and laboured slapstick and scatological gags. At least it looks beautiful, with some admittedly glorious, luscious widescreen photography.

Nearly 20 years ago I watched "Just Visiting" and was underwhelmed. Later I found out that it was based on a much loved French film. Fast forward to today and I finally watched the original and nope I didn't really like it either.

Very funny! But watch this one, the original, and not the American remake.

The best! If you don't laugh, you've no soul.

Watched this a second time after many years. Not as funny as I remembered.
