The Voice of the Moon

"If we all quieted down a little, maybe we'd learn something." Not the best directorial exit for Fellini.

T.V.O.T.M finds the maestro pushing his love of oneirec structures to their absolute limit, resulting in a fragmented episodic narrative that blurs reality, memory and fantasy in a seemingly arbritrary fashion. It's self indulgent, but like most of his undervalued late works, there is a strong undercurrent of sadness and loss for a time that has regrettably passed. Benigni and Villaggio are the charming madmen guiding us through this fantastical dreamscape, and the opening shot is pure poetry.

Fellini's swan song is so very episodic that near the end I didn't really care anymore about it.
