While definitely filled with the typical 70's-80's movie cheese, it's cheesy 70's-80's done right. It's brimming with personality with its outlandish characters, great pacing and very entertaining fight scenes. Definitely a must see.

I can dig it! *Bops Gene Shalit with a roll of quarters in a sock across the jaw* Do all these gangs just hang out 24/7 or is this something they go do once a week. Some disappointed kid watching their 40 year old Dad putting greasepaint on and squeezing into a baseball uniform. James Remar was contractually obligated to call everyone faggots at least three times. Wish there was more glimpses at ridiculous gangs. “Don’t you dare go down 45th that’s Honey Suckle turf!”

Sometime in the future, when the future is exactly the same as the present in which this particular future is conceived, the accepted plural form of millennium is millenniums, and gangs of mimes, orphans, and baseball chums roam the underpopulated, yet groovetastic streets of the Big Apple, a bunch of denim-clad hooligans with hard sticks and harder nipples battle their way back to the beach using various forms of public transportation.

I loved this film growing up, and continued to for a long time, but now the nostalgia has worn a bit thin. It's wild and fun schlock, certainly with a unique gimmick, but these days I find it harder to tolerate the totally abysmal writing, acting, and pointless misogyny.

It's campy and a bit silly, but it makes up for it by being entertaining and decidedly different. New York is turned into a quite literal urban jungle that's far removed from what you see in, say, a Woody Allen movie.

Despite the fact that such a mediocre movie has built such a big cult following, it's really a pretty average movie at best. The director fucked with the second DVD release to make the transitions between scenes look like a comic book, making a dated film even more tacky.

It's a simple, efficient story, but it's not executed very well, with a frankly surprising amount of filler for such a short movie, and a surprising lack of violence. Considering the simple plot it's frustrating how much running around and bland dialogue there is. And most of the apparently tough gang-members look like skinny white actors. I suspect it was mind-blowing when it came out and not much critical appraisal has taken place since then. The Krautrock soundtrack totally kicks ass though.

The Warriors is a wonderful mix of youth angst and the music that fuels those feelings of passion that we all feel during that time in our lives. As the Warriors make their way across New York City back to their home turf Coney Island, they are bombarded by memorable gangs with fun gimmicks that the costume designers made believable. The creepy gang lord that is famous for the often quoted line "Warriors come out to play" is terrifying. This movie had character in spades.

A "gritty cartoon" that balances grim ridiculousness within a loose structure through a solid premise & uncanny stylistic coherence. Energetic fun with injections of edgy grunge that's halfway into expressing something raw about the pains of emergent machismo & the dynamics of conformity, socialization & rebellion. The thematic perspectives & stylistic components are very much informed by their time & as projected into such a wild fantastical vision achieve their own portion of timeless charm.

Entertaining if dopey film about a youth gang lost in a warped version of New York, fighting its way back to the home turf of Coney Island. Well, half the time the guys just run from enemies, but when they finally start fighting, none of the other gangs (each donning a distinctive "look" that would not be considered heterosexual today) prove to be any match for them. This is the missing link between Xenophon's Anabasis and Walter Hill's subsequent film, the much more serious Southern Comfort.

Holy shit, this movie was badass! I can't believe I've never seen it before! I loved the world it was set in, even though we only got a limited view of it. It reminded me a bit of A Clockwork Orange (1971). I loved the comic book feel of it too. Sure, not all of the acting was excellent, but it didn't really matter. It was creative, exciting and just damn cool! I really just enjoyed the hell out of it.

"Can you dig it,sucka ? catchy phrase from Walter Hill's iconic feature "The Warriors". a rare commodity of the early 80's where most of gangster film turned toward classy italian mob boss.on the other hand,Hill try to refresh the genre by going into american pop culture of the late 70's and looking toward the life of low life gangster.fortunately, the film wasn't as terrible as the material he try to adapt. the result was a stylish crime movie filled with loads of originality.

Caricaturally violent, stylishly gritty and frankly pretty trivial, The Warriors can be enjoyed as a nasty, vicious specimen of pulp mythicism. That's really the whole point: It's just an unashamed, but entertaining, streamlined celebration of the visceral appeal of crime and honor among crooks. It's Walter Hill in a nutshell.

Pretty entertaining as a parodic take on masculinity as currency, The Warriors is notable less for its violence but rather for its almost startling lack of violence. The gangs here operate in a seemingly zero-sum economy of reputation; despite just wanting to go home, the Warriors can't afford to take off their colors. It's an action movie whose characters desperately try to avoid action, where flight takes precedence over fight, where the weapons of choice are pageantry and posturing.

I'd enjoy what gangs would show up in a modern reboot. My picks would be a crypto-millionaire gang, armed drone gang, hipster microbrewer gang, militarised Bernie voters and a new-money-Chinese-tourist gang that simply shows up en-masse, pouring out of a giant tour bus until there is no space left in frame for anyone to move.

Hill's dystopic retro-futuristic vision of NY was a big influence on subsequent films, including Escape From New York, and it stands out in his ouevre for its stylistic boldness. Like Streets of Fire, it is an aesthetic creation, but with far more unity in tone and form, and there is an almost Bressonian quality to some of the performances that distances the viewer from the spotty acting, diverting attention elsewhere, except when Kelly is on-screen, then it's impossible to suspend judgement.

Not so much an existential action film carefully put together by Hill -- the pace is just perfectly balanced between moments of contemplation and despair -- but an amazingly crafted kind of low-fantasy world built on social disparities in NY. We almost don't see normal people out there -- the two rich couples taking the subway, commuters going their way --, because this is mostly a comic book/videogame take on urban madness through stations, rumbles and trying to escape from the cops.

Even the classical link - to Xenophon's March Up-Country - doesn't fully rescue this from some of the silliness of the minor gangs. Whether this is the result of poor acting and a small budget for costumes, or it is intentional "campiness", it distracts from, rather than adds to a fine, exciting story.
