Very innovative and does so much in such efficient ways, very clearly drawn relationships between characters. Cheryl Dunye treats the film's queer and racial themes with compassion, nuance and loads of insight.

much admiration for this film, its unique voice, the dedication Cheryl shows to the subject, the looks into her own life

This has lots of goofs and flimsy lines of dialogue, and really wears its racial and queer themes on its sleeve the whole time, as if there's almost nothing else in Cheryl's life. Still, it's just a good movie - down to earth, cleverly devised and bold in its style of storytelling, with flavourful characters.

Interestingly structured with echoes of F for Fake, but the acting is pretty mediocre and a lot of it feels quite disjointed. It comes together pretty well, though, and is interesting.
