The Wedding Night

At no point watching this film did I want Tony and Dora to get together (likely contrary to what Vidor wanted me to feel); Tony is a manipulative asshole (which I can appreciate if played right, not so here) and Dora is a too-helpless damsel in distress (annoying rather than attractively needy). Having said that, I certainly did not want Dora to die and for Tony to be eternally in pain! Also, there are certainly some moments when Cooper's charm cannot but shine through.

One of the last ditch efforts designed to getting Anna Sten over with the American audience. Sten looks beautiful and innocent and does her part well, but of the women Helen Vinson stole her thunder with her performance! But regardless of the good women, this was no doubt a Gary Cooper vehicle through and through. One where the big kid tries to be an intellectual. Full of charm and gets to feel the adult troubles of love. Cooper does a very fine figure here and the story is good too.
