In this strange western version of JAWS, Wild Bill Hickok hunts a white buffalo he has seen in a dream. Hickok moves through a variety of uniquely authentic western locations - dim, filthy, makeshift taverns; freezing, slaughterhouse-like frontier towns and beautifully desolate high country - before improbably teaming up with a young Crazy Horse to pursue the creature. Nice blend of western and horror genres with some eerie dreamlike qualities and a great cast.

This certainly is a western of its own kind. Wild Bill goes on the hunt for an elusive white buffalo along with Crazy Horse. The buffalo is featured quite a bit here, too, a tumbling ol' thing on rails making train sounds. Prety cool way to make the buffalo happen, though, some scenes looked really nice with it. An obscurity, not the most entertaining western I've seen, but certainly interesting. Also I keep noticing when snow looks awfully fake in movies. It does look like that here. A lot.

A little off the beaten path for this era of Bronson, but it's a solid western with a good story. There aren't a lot of Bronson movies from the 70's that are truly worth ignoring, but while this one is good, it's not a great introduction to his work.

I really like this one, similar to the way I like Orca. It has an eerie and haunting feel. Something different for Bronson too.

Although "The White Buffalo" has a storyline full of potential, its execution falls short, resulting in a disappointing viewing experience. The cast, consisting of experienced actors, cannot compensate for the film's inadequacies due to poor production.

Surprisingly restrained compared to later Bronson/Thompson co-operations. It's in line with other 70's westerns and paints a bleak picture of the old west and has some respect for Indians. Bronson gets to do some acting in this one. Some of the effects and studio scenes are distracting, but it's worth a watch as it's a rare western with supernatural/horror overtones. The copy I saw wasn't that great, so it would be nice to see this on 35mm or at least HD.
