In Frantisek Vlácil's debut feature film, a young girl, Susanne, waits for her homing pigeon to return after releasing it in France, but the little white bird has been blown off course and lands in Prague. There, a wheelchair-bound boy injures it, but, with the encouragement of an artist who lives in the same apartment building, he begins to nurse the dove back to health. (Summary by djross)

Concerns a young girl and a young boy, both of whom are a bit asocial (or we could say with Kant, a bit unsocial but sociable), who are helped by a kind of indirect and unwitting symbolic exchange, conducted across borders and mediated by a bird and an artist, in this way commenting on the unsocial sociability of nations. Vlácil’s careful attention to all aspects of the production succeeds in turning what is, at heart, a simple tale, into a rather impressive, evocative and affecting allegory.

A pomba branca estreava há 60 anos na Tchecoslováquia. Agora sim um Vlácil que me tirou o fôlego, nem tanto pelo conto de simbologia bem singela (pra não falar bobinha), mas pela deslumbrante composição da mise en scène, cada plano é uma obra de arte. Plus: Um gato chamada Satã que faria uma boa dupla com a minha Demonha que também gosta de atacar pássaros. DVDRip no MakingOff.
