I will never ever EVER hire Keanu Reeves as my lawyer!

The Whole Truth was a standard suspense/courtroom drama. Keanu Reeves did a good job of playing the hero lawyer who has the deck stacked against him. Renee Zellweger was great as the wife of an abusive Jim Belushi, who did a great job in this role. I was surprised most by Belushi's performance. The twist at the end was impactful but that didn't make up for a pretty lackluster movie. I didn't find most of the courtroom drama to be that engaging and nothing happened outside of court.

Why did all these people get involved in this project? Am I missing somehing?

A couple of twists elevate this courtroom drama/crime thriller.

A good emphasis on rigid compositions and the ensemble cast's strenghts -- Reeves minimal performance, Renee's faces and gestures between fragility and power, Gugu's inquisitive faces, lil' Chris Pine's ability to lie --, but a small-minded script (the lawyer did it!) makes it nearly forgettable.

It has a very book-like structure. Upon further investigation, I'm actually shocked this isn't a book adaptation but an original script. It's a decent drama until the final twist reveal that pretty much destroys all internal logic of the film. Also, the story arc of one of the mains is dropped completely in the final act. Wtf?

This movie starts slow and it seems like it could be building to something good. Unfortunately the twists do not work and the payoff does not save the movie. Overall this film is disappointing.

Keanu Reeves is appropriately understated here and Zellweger is interesting to watch; it's Basso the one who gives the movie its few genuinely interesting moments, however.

A meandering mess, especially the ending.

Uh, sure, yeah. Alright. This might be the most average movie I've ever seen. Like I'm trying to expand on this but my vision just blurs into a field of beige with the faint sound of royalty-free soft rock ringing in my ears.

My sixth grade writing teacher would have failed me if I had turned this in. It's not that bad, but it's poorly constructed. The biggest mistake is that it takes the whole film to reveal the secret without any foreshadowing. If there is any foreshadowing it is subtle and/or completely lost on me. I like the premise of the film but it's simply poorly written--not the dialog, but the arrangement. Some foreshadowing is necessary for stories with huge twists like this. A lot of time was wasted.

Just another ordinary courtroom drama. Here's the review : http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/2017/01/the-whole-truth-2016.html
