The Wild Robot

The first act is pretty wonderful and sets up a central metaphor strong enough to sustain this during a clunkier second act. I think this kinda loses the thread in the last third, though. Still very solid, extremely lovely at times, but more mechanical than I would have hoped.

A very sweet film, brimming with creativity and interesting ideas, but hampered by the classic tropes movies targeted to kids.

Not perfect (some uneven pacing: some slow bits, some rushed bits), but it told an incredibly moving story and it certainly worked for me: I spent the middle 2/3 crying, and though yes, I'm a softy, that's a lot even for me. My favourite film this year, so far, by far.

quite a wholesome movie, nice dealing with death.

So much promise let down by a misguided, formulaic third act. But the first half truly shines.

I was bored out of my skull. A far cry from the Wall-E/Miyazaki experience it desperately wants to be.
