This disturbing but never surprising document of the various anti-social behaviors displayed by this rotted family tree gets tiresome enough that it provokes far more interesting, but likely unintended, questions. 4 instance: is enforced sterilization occasionally a great idea? & how can any culture consider itself decent (never mind Christian) when it also considers a family this f-cked up & violent not only worthy of several songs, but representatives of some "lost" ideal of American freedom?

It's like watching a car wreck. The people in this family are disgusting human beings and it's hard to say if they were showing off for the camera or if they're always that way, but it's an interesting look at a type of people most in this country (luckily) don't get to experience firsthand.

I don't get who this is for. A feature length documentary about a horrible family that we could find out everything about with 2 minutes of narration, the rest is just repetition

The Whites are undeniably fascinating, but Nitzberg fails to construct his footage into an interesting story

Naturally it was interesting; viewing sociopaths from afar usually is. I was left feeling that this documentary was somehow lacking or that there was something implicit that wasn't coming across. Maybe the various documentaries of their mountain dancing style are needed to flesh out one's understanding.

The topic of this documentary pretty much makes the movie by itself. There isn't to much art behind the storytelling. But that's the thing. They found the right story, and you'll be captivated for the whole ride.

Hands down one of my favorite documentaries EVER! I was drawn to this for two reasons: I love social/cultural documentaries, and my last name happens to also be White. The White's of this film are exactly as the title suggests; wild and wonderful. Although they are quite shady, I fell in love with the family from the get go.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia is basically a real Trailer Park Boys documentary. It's genuinely hilarious if you take a step back and observe it's truly absurd characters. For example, it features someone who has huffed so much gas he can tell, by scent, the difference in the grades now. Apparently he's been told by doctors he has a hole in his brain and "I've got a brain cell that don't work, I don't know which one but that's what they tell me." Absolutely hilarious.

Funny but bleak documentary showing how your environment can affect you and almost give you no choice in how your life will turn out.

I'm not that far away from the location of this film, and while my (real) neighbors aren't quite as memorable, there's still a pervasive problem with joblessness (and hopelessness), lawlessness, and a lot of drugs and alcohol in this rural area, just like in WV. Instead of trying to offer any solutions, this documentary presents the family as a freak show, perhaps cursed, perhaps self-inflicted.

This documentary focuses on some really crazy people. You have to see the people to believe it. A lot of the subjects in the movie are unsympathetic but the movie is still interesting. It takes awhile to get into the movie but overall I would recommend it.

Interesting, but in the same sense that watching a self-destructive, violent, drug-abusing, murderous train drive itself into the ground is.
