Middling family(s) drama spreads its focus a litte too wide, and director Rickman uses awkward transitions between the various pairs (which would have worked more seamlessly on stage). Thankfully, performances are generally fine (with Thompson standing out as always), and enjoyable (if occasionally arch) work by Law, as her dithering but sharply observant mother.
