The World of Kanako

Friend: "So how was The World of Kanako? Me:"Japanese.... And this is answer enough for anyone with at least fleeting familiarity of Japanese movies. Batshit crazy-good performance by Kôji Yakusho. I would rate it higher if not the last overdrawn 30 minutes of so. (In case I'll forget again) The music playing in club-party montage is called Triple Nipple, and they are pretty fun (for Japanese band).

While the performances were pretty good, the film itself was a little meandering and went too much for the shock factor, that it became a little muddled. The pacing wasn't great and it doesn't have a strong enough plot to get it to where it needs to be.

crazy and excessive in more ways than one, but an interesting watch regardless. very convoluted in terms of plot, and not a lot of character development, but rather experimental and daring when it came to cinematography and editing. felt a bit like a tarantino knock-off, but maybe there's some novelty to that style within japan. at the end of the day though, it felt like it was grasping at meaning beneath its flashy exterior, but ultimately came up empty.

A Japanese Al Pacino with a touch of the bad lieutenant goes in search of his wayward daughter. A tad overwrought, but fans of hitting, stabbing and especially screaming and shouting will delight.

Tries to be shocking and gets to be boring.
