I... I want to LOVE it, but I only really like it - although the more I think, the more was going on behind the scenes. The first half-hour seems like a pastiche, not really a parody, of a "Hangover" film with a dash of realism, and as a result most of the humor gets lost in depressing humanism. Once the action truly gears up, things get off to a rocking pace and vastly improve - between Wright's easter eggs and his signature foreshadowing, I'll go back for another round soon enough.

Entertaining, with a good cast, and some nifty editing and ideas. Some of the patter is very funny, and often very relatable. For me, though, it didn't have the appeal of either Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz - the central idea wasn't as effective, and tonally it felt a bit off for it to be fully effective as a comedy. Still, this is still well worth seeing, and fans of the other two parts of the trilogy will find plenty to like here.

Pegg is phenomenal as Gary King. Under Wright's direction he excels at everything from slapsticky physical comedy to affecting emotional beats. Their gag-a-second writing, while somewhat hit-and-miss, is terrific once again. Since 'Spaced' they've consistently proved themselves connoisseurs of just about every genre there is. In part because of great casting, this is one of those rewatchable "I wanna hang out with these guys again and again" type films. The first third is particularly wonderful.

A critique of "Starbucking" and the way corporate anti-culture requires that singular, fallible individuals be subjected to synchronous conformity. The form of highly professionalised screenwriting that underlies this film, however, seems to operate by creating very "familiar" character-types, premised on the idea that viewers will know one of "those" and one of "those", etc. In other words, does it not subject its audience to the very process it is criticising (a flaw this viewer finds fatal)?

What I learned from this movie: Three things made by the same person = trilogy. I'll be back, Let off some steam, It's not a tumor = trilogy. Son's mess in the play room, son's mess in the kitchen, son's mess in his diaper = trilogy. My decision to drink that third bottle of Absinthe, my decision to steal the power shovel from the abandoned construction site near the Wal-Mart, bail = trilogy. (I already knew Pierce Brosnan was an extra-terrestrial).

It's a lot of fun! The Shaun/Hot Fuzz influence is obvious, with it having the same two leads and same genre-satire-with-a-little-pathos vibe (and, you know, being part of the same "trilogy"), but there's also a lot of Scott Pilgrim's fight scenes in the staging, shooting, and general energy of its barroom brawls. In all fairness, I'd rank it fourth out of Wright's four films so far, but that doesn't mean I didn't like it. It was a blast! But my standards for Edgar Wright are just that high.

I am so happy with how this trilogy panned out. Simon Pegg especially out did himself in the acting compartment here. One of the most hilarious films in forever and yet it had many layers too it also. Ending was tad out there but still felt it worked. Anyone up for a pub crawl?

While the plot concept feels oddly similar to both Shaun and Hot Fuzz, it actually ends up being significantly different, tonally, than the first two. In many ways, this feels a bit like a farewell, as the film plays with reuniting old friends and letting go of things you've done since the 90s. While this may lead to the film being less masterfully hilarious and more ludicrous than the other two entries of the trilogy, the fact that it's the most emotionally resonant almost makes up for it.

With a superb cast and a great premise, this gets off to a flying start, with some great wisecracking dialogue. This could have been a really interesting examination of nostalgia, and a satire of the homogenisation of modern life, but instead we get lots of (admittedly witty) fights with very unscary and frankly boring robots. Someone needs to take away Wright's CGI budget because he's much better on a smaller scale. Disappointing.

Underneath its fun tapestry of endless witty banter, zany apocalyptic sci-fi, and action 'til you're blue in the face are some wonderful nuggets of character drama and thematic debates on nostalgia, authenticity, friendship, and personal growth. There's only one Gary King (or is there? Should there be? Are we always the same person?); he's a "fuck-up" but he's human; his devil-may-care attitude is wildly concerning but helpful when the devil himself comes to call at the world's end ("Fuck it.").

Maybe the least funny - though by no means anything less than hysterical - of the Cornetto trilogy but by leaps and bounds the most thoughtful of the films. The themes of growing up and letting go as individuals, of people as a whole needing to be able to make their own mistakes as we grow rather than having our hands held, and of the influx of sterile standardized cultural institutions brought on by globalization make for a surprisingly humanist and, dare I say, borderline anti-capitalist film.

Is there a movement that just wants to see Pegg, Frost and Wright forgo comedy and genre mashups for the sake of a straight-up drama? Or something that relegates comedy to the backseat? If not, I want to chair this movement and drive its bandwagon. The "before the twist" exploration of one character's inability to unstick himself from a short window of time (while the rest of his pals have) was doing just fine on its own and was way more interesting than the rote action setpieces that followed.

On the one hand it's sharp, witty and inventive. But on the other, I feel cheated by Pegg/Frost/Wright for making the same exact film as Shaun of the Dead with only some minor details altered. The dialogue is up to scratch but too much of the plot feels like it was scribbled out on a napkin by two drunken mates in a pub and forgotten about until later. The tone was about right but action scenes were not that polished and loose ends left untied. Nor can I forgive the shameless rehashing of ideas.

Wright, Pegg and Frost somehow find a way to bring their loose "trilogy" to a satisfying conclusion. "The World's End", while sporting some obvious inspirations, isn't nearly as focused on referential comedy and parodies as "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" were. This film is much more focused on its characters and theme, while still being extremely funny in its own right. Some might get mood whiplash between the drama and comedy, but I feel it works. The fights were surprisingly awesome.

The initial set up was compelling enough for me to be surprised by the apocalypse turn despite knowing it was coming. Strong performances, scriptwriting, and tight direction embrace the silliness of the concept and give it a lot, in the end, to be taken seriously.

A more straightforward and linear film compared to its predecessors, but it is just as layered and satisfying. The final act of the Cornetto trilogy is arguably the weakest, but by no means weak. The characters are not as likable but that seems to be the point; these flawed characters show the imperfections of the human race in order to underly the perfection apparent. Many seem to dislike this area of the film, and I did to an extent opening day. However, repeat viewings changed my view. Great!

Similarities to Shaun of the Dead (man-child protagonist, pub-centric plot), Hot Fuzz (commentary on small town England), and even Scott Pilgrim were inevitable, but it ultimately feels derivative; the worst thing that can be said about the film is that it feels like a part of the trilogy, exploring familiar territory without the bold originality of Wright's previous work. It's still funny, witty, and frequently insightful, but it may be doomed to live in the shadow of its fresher predecessors.

The humour is more effective and plentiful than Fuzz, but the latter was more entertaining, although Shaun is still leaps and bounds above them both. As a film, it feels more thoughtful than the previous two entries of the "trilogy", but unfortunately that all falls apart during the final act with an inconsistent tone and a shoehorned message. It may be the worst of the three, but definitely give it a watch. Wright is an awesome action director, I just wish he'd lessen the CGI usage.

Possibly the least funny of the Cornetto trilogy, but that's not saying much as it's still hilarious all the way through. The humour may not be as sharp as in Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but this is made up for by adding more emotional depth and by going deeper with characters and exploration of certain themes, which I really applaud. Nick Frost is amazing and hilarious, as usual. Very entertaining film with a great cast. Very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.

This is a fantastic sci-fi flick that mines the same territory as The Matrix (humanity vs. technology)...only this movie is hilarious. Bill Pope's cinematography is a treat to see. The script is loving and knowing in its understanding of paranoid sci-fi films and the tropes they contain. The humor is inspired in how it reveals interactions between these friends. And most of all, Simon Pegg's acting is some of the finest tight roping of drama and comedy that I've seen all year.

A middle aged burnout gets his high school buddies together for a pub crawl that turns into a desperate fight for survival against alien robot doppelgangers. Very funny in parts (especially Nick Frost playing against type as a teetotaler lawyer), with lots of decent beat 'em up action, but it does drag a bit towards the end. There are tons of familiar faces and movie references to pick out that add to the fun.

I'd have to revisit Hot Fuzz, but I think this is my favorite of the Pegg/Frost trilogy - probably because, while I don't much go for zombie stuff, I can certainly relate to getting loaded with friends. Plus the script is dynamite. I never tire of Nick Frost's angry fat guy violence. And that's to say nothing of how heavy it is - Gary King is a really sad, pathetic character.

Most of it is very funny, but it was a bit repetitive and the energy was a bit inconsistent. The ending postscript also felt kinda useless. Shaun and Hot Fuzz didn't grow on me until a second viewing, so perhaps the same will be true here. Until then at least I had a very good time.

The sci-fi elements arent meant "to lighten or dumb down the proceedings, but to liberate the characters and the audience from a situation which has finally escalated to the point of unbearable. The joke is that the presence of the robots, while obviously terrifying, actually alleviates the pain of the situation: The disappointment you feel when you realize that nobody in your small hometown recognizes or remembers you is explained by the fact that, yes, they've all been replaced by robots."

The final Cornetto chapter goes nuts with a bigger budget -- there's CGI everywhere like any tentpole and worldwide flicks, but Wright, the finest british director of the last 10 years or so, manages to mantain what makes his films so cool. Which is: beer, fighting, buddies talking dirty -- and nonsense, of course, because they are all drunk --, a siege structure -- humanity getting Starbucked! -- and an amusingly playful and eye-popping sense of placing, cutting and editing each frame.

Very formulaic, following almost exactly the concepts set in place by the first two films. It's got all the wit and edge, with line after line of zingers, but Wright's direction gets mucked up with some rather shit CGI. It was all done so quickly, so sharply that the ultimate effect is exactly what one would expect from a night out, drinking with friends. I was grateful for the change in roles and performances (something Hot Fuzz did not provide); the chemistry between Pegg, Frost, and the rest of the cast feels so crisp. Ending is pretty shit, and I mean in it in the best way possible. It's just terribly anti-climatic and indifferent. The fight choreography is a surprising highlight!

It was always going to be uphill, following two of the funniest comedies of the last decade, and when it comes to belly laughs, The World's End is somewhat lacking in comparison. That said, and mainly because of the great cast of characters, it was an original and surprisingly bittersweet tale.

It's arguably the weakest of the trilogy. This time, the genre the film parodies is not as good a fit as those of its predecessors, occasionally feeling a bit forced. I also noticed that third acts are never Wright's strong suit and that is also more pronounced here as the film shifts unevenly to a more formulaic sci-fi romp, struggling to maintain its charm and trademark humor. But the good definitely outweighs the bad and The World's End remains a riotously funny and clever affair.

A more mature outing than the previous two in the trilogy, but not unexpected and just as fun. This time spoofing invasion movies and a role reversal (Pegg is the funny man to Frost's straight man). While maybe not as funny as the previous two films, it has more heart and isn't afraid of going to some dark places for character development that doesn't feel forced. Overall, a fitting end to an amazing trilogy of comedy.

I liked the begin. It had a lot of promise when it focused on the relationship between old childhood friends but the science fiction aspect did not work. Pretty much a letdown. The last forty minutes (including a 10 minute dialogue with a pulsating ball of light) start beating you over the head the film's themes over and over again, and dialing down the humor to make sure you're paying attention. Wright also seems to have lost his love of action scenes since they verge on incomprehensible after the first. I hope these guys try something new next time. Still, not as bad as Paul. The last film in the "Cornetto Trilogy" is delicious, but maybe a bit melty all together in the end. This inherently human story is poignant on a smaller/ personal level with the characters as well as the larger thematic levels of the human race, but this may restrict the movie from being quite as funny as its predecessors. The alien replicant visuals and other CGI effects began to show their budget and wear thin at times like the ending. However, still a great watch for fans of Wright and Co.

Rewatch. Had much more appreciation for this after rewatching the Cornetto Trilogy, mostly for seeing the gang back together, but it's still a huge WTF twist and I'm not sure what the message was, since Pegg never grew up. Rosamund Pike left the film too early. Fav scenes: the gang was quite effective at fisticuffs, but Nick Frost was the most surprising at dishing out beatdowns.

It's not quite as funny as Hot Fuzz (very little is) and Shaun of the Dead but damn it was a good time. It worked as an apocalyptic action movie and obviously a comedy. The plot was pretty interesting though not really the reason I went anyway, and the social commentary was intriguing. It started off a little slow in terms of laughs and I felt like maybe they lost their edge, but as it went on I found myself consistently laughing. And that's all I wanted from the finale in this trilogy.

Definitely enjoyed myself with this watch but felt it kind of lags behind in comparison to Shaun of the Dead and especially Hot Fuzz. The World's End pub is Gary King's white whale, representing the escape from his depressing life in rehab and attempted suicides. It's pretty heavy now that I think about it. I feel like the ending has some meaning that I'm missing, but I feel like, if it is what I think it is, that doesn't reflect well on Gary. In any case, entertaining and well worth seeing!

A brilliant end to one of the funniest trilogies of all time.

Like a hammered Doctor Who episode. Brilliant twist on the usual "humans are amazing and they save the Universe" by making it "humans are fuck ups, so piss off aliens we'll do what we want". Uh, spoilers. Not my favourite flavour of Corneto but a solid end to the trilogy.

It is hard not to compare this to the preceding pieces in the trilogy, and, in that sense, The World's End is the weakest link. Still, the complete absurdity is often delightful and the cast is wonderful. Pegg's character is unfortunately fairly irritating by the conclusion, but not without bringing plenty of laughs. A fitting conclusion.

The best movie I saw summer of 2013. Absolutely stacks up against Shaun and Fuzz.

Quite a nice "sequel" to the previous adventures of Wright, Pegg & Frost. I was slightly bored in the second half of the movie (especially the chit-chat with the aliens), but otherwise it's as bizarre, full of twists and wtf moments and enjoyable as the previous Wright titles.

An interesting and honestly pretty depressing comedy.

Finale of the "Cornetto" trilogy hews more closely in style and content to SHAUN - while it can never top its forebears, (the sci-fi/horror elements never quite convince, and swapping Pegg and Frost's expected roles leaves Pegg especially ill at ease) the droll, deadpan humour here is about as good as anything in the other two films, with Freeman and Marsan especially good (it is a shame more isn't done with Brosnan's ageing hippie). Great fun; would probably work better had SHAUN never existed!

Blisteringly funny and intricate--a smart, disarmingly deep action horror comedy about how necessary it is to grow up and leave the past behind, which is pretty much what SHAUN and FUZZ (and "Spaced," too, I suppose) were about. I preferred this to SHAUN and FUZZ--funnier and zippier, with a stronger ensemble. Your mileage may vary. Essential viewing for sure, though, and destined to be one of 2013's best.

It's not the "laugh-a-minute" jokefests that Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were. More of a "laugh-a-minute-and-a-half" deal. They needed some time left to put some very smart stuff in too.

Ridiculous, off-the-rails fun movie. Simon Pegg in particular is brilliant in this, and there's lots of snappy, fun dialogue.

Rather unsatisfying in comparison to the other Wright/Pegg films. Most of the film is spent feeling sorry for the main character, regardless of the situation. A lot of the attempted laughs really just fall flat behind that. Still, it is very watchable, and has some fun banter. It just suffers by comparison to Shaun or Hot Fuzz.

I waited years for this and it didn't disappoint. The World's End may not be Wright's finest comedy, but it's still well written and has plenty of his humor and wit to keep the train rolling. Acting is great as usual and the directing is as fantastic as usual. It's well-worn seeing!

About as good as I could hope. It's hilarious, infuriating, honest, and insightful. Pegg plays a charismatic prick really well and it is questionable if he's changed all that much in the end or if the world just finally caught up to him.

The end of the trilogy isn't quite up there with the first two - then again, I thought that of "Hot Fuzz" as well at first. But there's a remarkable continuity, not to the plot but to the character archetypes, Frost and Pegg playing off each other and the classic stories they riff on. ...Yadayadayada, and Primal Scream and the Sisters of Mercy become deep philosophers, gentrification becomes the Big Bad, and pouring a beer yourself an act of rebellion. Cornetto, motherfuckers.

It just wasn't THAT funny...and the ending was terrible. But, it was good, up until the last 15 or so minutes.

Edgar Wright closes his Three Colours Cornetto trilogy (which includes Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) in hilarious style. It's laugh-out-loud funny while remaining sincerely heartfelt and honest. All members of the cast have their moments to shine, but it's Nick Frost and Simon Pegg who bring the laughs as well as emotional weight to the story of connections. Also delivers on the action front with sci-fi beats reminiscent of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

A mostly mindless romp into a new take on the alien invasion theme. The movie alternates between silly fun and stupid. Five friends are reunited and attempt to recreate a whiskey bar challenge from their past. Except that they find their hometown has been transformed by an alien invasion. There are a few humorous moments. Special effects are not particularly good. Music and production quality is good. The plot is mostly idiotic.

In a straight forward manner,"The World's End" isn't much of a great closure that it suppose to be or could be.
surprisingly,it was the weakest part after its lavish and exciting preceding.
although, its unexpectedly more mature and thoughtful by avoid easy laugh and became more sober towards the character.especially in part of Pegg convincing role as the so-called hedonistic leader of the gang.
nonetheless,it still delivers the goods from the british comic duo and a memorable punchline.

A really good comedy, with lots of pathos and a more subtle mix of big physical comedy moments, sharp dialogue, and a lot of dry character-based humor. It's also a really good action movie - the fight sequences have a real chaotic flow to them but are also very easy to follow, exciting, and well choreographed. The darker, more melancholic tone works too and it's good to see Pegg/Frost cast against type (helped by a very strong supporting cast). Great soundtrack, and a great sci-fi thriller too!

Loved this movie. It still never hits the level that Shaun of the Dead or even Spaced was able to hit, but it's still tons of fun. The movie is bigger which didn't really help it in some cases, but didn't hurt it either. It got so wacky near the end and it worked. Liked that Pegg and Frost sort of had a role reversal, but Gary King just wasn't a likable character..at all. #1 Shaun of the Dead #2 Spaced (Does TV count?) #3 World's End #4 Hot Fuzz (which is still amazing)

The World's End is a film I had anticipated for a long time and my expectations where very high. I wanted to love it, but ultimately I just liked it. It has the heart of the previous two 'Cornetto' films, but this third act just feels like a repetition of everything we've seen previously. Pegg & Frost are as funny and comfortable as ever. And it's well written and directed by Wright. There's definitely fun to be had here, but collectively this falls short of the previous two films in every way.

Searing language and reckless boozing lay over everything like filthy bar rags. Then, instead of any real comeuppance or resolution for man-child Gary and all the other obnoxious behavior on display, the movie simply gives something of a metaphorical nod to it all, a drunken lift of the comic glass before knocking back another pint ... and flitting off into a whimsical sci-fi dénouement. This is the End, which is cruder and more raucous than The World's End, had its heroes ascend into the light of the Rapture, redeemed by good deeds for each other. Warm Bodies ended on an upbeat note. The horror movie-spoof The Cabin in the Woods and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World both closed with big bangs. The World's End isn't that bold; it wraps up things in way that seems contrived and haphazard--as if Wright and Pegg came up with it after a long night at the pub.
