The title's a trite metaphor and the surprises are thin. But the sleepy scenery and charming performances - Stewart escapes her vampires and reminds everyone what the fuss used to be about - keep The Yellow Handkerchief from blowing it.

"The film fails to provide Kristen Stewart the courtesy of a role with scene-stealing potential." - Andrew Schenker

Small and intimate -- occasionally to a fault -- The Yellow Handkerchief rises above its overly familiar ingredients thanks to riveting performances from William Hurt and Kristen Stewart.

No movie nominated for an Oscar this year boasts acting as fine as The Yellow Handkerchief.

It's a simple enough story but it's well told and William Hurt creates a really sympathetic character. Redmayne's performance is quirky and fun with a lot of depth, and Stewart is well cast but inconsistent.

Such a predictable and uninspiring ending spoils it all.

William Hurt is phenomenal and Kristen Stewart is decent enough. Great scenery and cinematography - an overall very good film.

it gives a new insight, although with strange parts in it, it feels fully put together by the end, i wish more screen time went to eddie and stewart but then it would also detract from the main charachter william hurt
