It's full of Jeunet's trademark whimsy, and in the beginning I was loving it. It doesn't quite last though; the second and third acts drag, with not enough plot to keep them moving. It's a shame, really - I think with a bit more work on the script, it could've been brilliant. Still, it has a decent performance from the young lead, and Jeunet's usual gorgeous cinematography, so I'd say it's definitely worth a watch.

The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet is a very enjoyable movie. Filled with humor, sadness, beautiful cinematography, a wonderful imagination, and just a hint of magic, this is a film that will make you feel a wide range of emotions, all while appreciating its beauty. It has a strong leading performance from a child actor -- a rarity -- a style unique to its director, and a strong supporting cast. These types of films don't come along every day. You should see this movie.

Boasts enough charm to reel you in, while being fairly inconsistent: For the most part, the film pulses with a playful energy, yet others feel long-winded and frivolous, such as the superfluous 3rd act. Should've ended after his speech.

A really enjoyable kids movie that is often charming and funny and rarely stupid or childish. Although it turns out the story is relatively unoriginal and we've seen this character journey many times before, this is quite a good version of that story. I just wish this had less swearing in it so it could've gotten a lower classification rating.

Amongst the charm and whimsy of The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet lies the darker themes present in some of Jeunet's other work. While much of the humour worked for me, some of the more quiet, melancholic parts didn't. Throughout the film authoritative figures are presented as the antagonists especially when they abuse their power, but this doesn't really go anywhere. The final act attempts an act of absolution but this seemed shallow too. Overall the film looks good, but is just too hokey.

A family movie about a boy who kills his twin brother accidentally and blames himself for it. But, of course, go ahead and make your children discover the fantastic word of an experiment enthusiast boy who is also a genius. Your choice.

A boy wins a prestigious prize and goes across the US, while avoiding a family tragedy. Parts were interesting (wonderful scenic shots), but the heavy message (possibly confusing for the core tween audience when somebody keeps reappearing) and the oddball Disney-like parents really detract. The Smithsonian came out looking like complete idiots run the place. Cute but ultimately disappointing.

''The amazing thing about water drops, is that they always take the path of least resistance. For humans, it's exactly the opposite.'' ''Every millimeter of landscape was replaced by manmade constructions ruled by the laws of geometry. How could humans create so many right angles when their behavior is so convoluted and illogical?''

A very melancholy, yet hopefully optimistic film that's full of unique quirks and interesting moments.

an adorable little adventure. sadly, it steadily declines towards the ending and leaves most of what it built up from in utter disregard, making it somewhat pointless altogether. and...what the fuck?! the guy who directed THIS did alien:resurrection?!

If you'd cut everything but the luminous Americana, boy, what a short this could be.

Quirkily creative storytelling (namely, T.S.' charming mix of childlike and brilliant science-laden narration; the imaginative camerawork and visual aids-see his suitcase packing, in-screen shots) and vividly coloured cinematography present a compelling tale part tragic Americana family portrait, part indie road trip fare (the weakest act of the three with a couple unintentionally creepy characters) and part surreal and macabre vision of mass media manipulation. A fresh-feeling film well-acted.
