Not much to say about this one, except that it falls short of the barest cinematic standards, being cheap, poorly acted, obvious and bereft of narrative momentum. The constant references to American romantic painters are inexplicable, since the visual identity of the film, barring the final shot, is beyond bland, and no landscapes are ever shown for any length of time; the Swedenborg connection is similarly perfunctory.

The first little bit works as a family drama to some degree, but at some point it just begins to unravel. It's never the most exciting or ambitious flick, but it really becomes dull. There's a corniness scattered throughout, specifically in the ghostly images, that make it seem more low-budget than I'm sure it was. Seyfried is pleasant and always trying, but that's about it. Its attempts to fuse art and spirituality are flat, while trying to cover up for a lack of substance.

A woman gradually realises she's married the wrong kind of man. Weak and unexciting, partly because it prefers to tap into contemporary resentments rather than fears and anxieties, and so concludes by delivering a predictable comeuppance. The presentation of the late 1970s is quite anachronistic, seeming as if it has been written for the present and just transplanted to a world four decades past: this is slightly disconcerting, especially since the writer-directors are in fact older than I am.

Kinda like a paranormal thriller, supernatural suspense or ambient horror but really none of them. This would have probably served as a decent drama of a family falling apart, plagued by the FIGURATIVE ghosts of the history of their house and personal choices. Literal ghosts don't really add any value to this croc-pot of a horrorish epoch (I seriously didn't even realize but after the movie was over that it was supposed to be set in the 80's!)

What was the point of the ghosts, they could have make it no actual supernatural stuff (only going crazy) and it would have been less cheesy and been better imo. It would cut down in the annoyance toward the bad effects and corniness. The ending felt very rushed.

Terrible, the same old shit but made in the wrong way. Almost like if they attempted to do a disgusting movie and even failed to do so

Critics and audiences don't seem crazy about this one, but I liked it. Think of it as a thriller or ghost story, but not necessarily a horror, and you might enjoy it.

It's a tad too long for the message it is trying to convey and it most certainly is in no way a movie within the horror genre. You can enjoy watching this movie if you are able to look past its shortcomings, particularly story-wise.

Wow, to call this a horror film would actually be a huge compliment, which is one thing it certainly doesn't deserve. Unbelievably poorly written, blandly directed and the editing can't even relate its themes -- domestic violence, mysoginy, doomed marriage -- together to make it at least watchable. Finale just says it all.

I see dead people filmlerinden biri. Amanda Seyfried'ın başrolünde oynadığı film, evli mutlu çocuklu 1 ailenin, dubleks taşra evinde yaşadığı olaylar. Yalnız sadede gelmesi için çok uzatılmış. Get Out dahil bütün filmleri kullanmış. Adamın şerefsiz çıkması da ne bileyim? Gel Günaha girelim yanalım gitsin inceldiği yerden kopsun.

I'm not sure why this movie has such disappointed reviews. Perhaps they had read the book, which I have not, and felt that the movie fell short. I felt that the characters were nicely fleshed out (the best part, really) and the plot flowed well, with everything turning out to serve a purpose. It didn't have any trouble keeping my attention, particularly toward the end, when secrets began to unravel. Solid, honestly.

All in all, not a terrible movie. I can understand the negative reviews, and I don’t see myself ever watching this again, but the story kept me interested, though I have a few questions about the backstory.

In its dialogue, editing, and overall presentation it's a bit clunky and contrived; the writing and acting isn't great and while some of the camerawork is cool, the saturated colours make it look cheap overall. The unraveling story can't help but compel, however, with its eclectic imagery and philosophizing, spooky past-future parallels (adding nuance to the ghost motif), and riveting central relationship and character arcs filled with lust, lies, and murder that bring it all to a haunting end.
