Third Person

Excellent cast. Some memorable scenes from tragic, messy lives. More sadness than joyful moments. Kim Basinger & Maria Bello were under utilized. Mila Kunis was unusually downtrodden. Liam Neeson was somewhat flat. Olivia Widle was exceptional as the hot mess. Adrien Brody played a strange role. Katy Louise Saunders was aloof but enchanting. Several timelines. Some mixed messages. Good music & production quality. A few good poignant moments. Good performances. Worth watching but not exceptional.

Even though the film is casted well and I loved the scenery, sounds and some intense moments. The total message is unclear and becomes hollow. Something like "The coward's adoration of bravery" is the most I could make of it.

1275: little Hazy!

I don't usually find things are too ephemeral for me but the themes here do not feel played out strongly enough to have the conversation it wants to have. Hints at love and trust and belief don't quite connect to each other for me in this story. Interesting in thought, but weak in practice, the characters seem like single sides to one person's self, especially noting the visual parallels between the stories.

I'm still not convinced that Third Person wasn't originally written as a comedy, á la a darker Love Actually. Despite moments of good acting none of the characters are well-written. The 2nd half is dull with a insufferably contrived ending. Brody and Atias' Italian escapade is by far the most interesting third. While the conclusion of Neeson's was inadvertently hilarious. The film is a mess that doesn't work, with the 3 stories connected via a similar backstory and psuedo-match-cuts.

35 minutes in, I have had enough.

Mostly great acting but the script is sadly not as good.
