A state-of-the-art remake of the classic William Castle horror film about a family that inherits a spectacular old house from an eccentric uncle. There's just one problem: the house seems to have a dangerous agenda all its own. (Warner Bros.)

Great makeup effects, and the set design is pretty cool, but it's all wasted on a lazy script full of missed opportunities. If you don't already have epilepsy, the editing here will give it to you. When this movie came out, the idea of a ghosts' rights activist could be played as a joke - nowadays it's probably a thing. #GhostLivesMatter #GhostDeathsMatter #ThisJokeDoesn'tReallyWork

I like the ship and the cast. No wait, that's Ghost Ship. I like the house and the cast, but they deserve better than this. No wait, that's The House on Haunted Hill. I like the house and the cast, but they ARE better than this. No wait, that's The Haunting. Okay, I like the house, but I don't like the cast. No wait, that's House of Wax. I like the planet and the cast. No wait, that's Ghost of Mars. I think I've pushed this far enough.

It's just fucking dreadful. The house looks really cool, but it's completely wasted on a bunch of terrible characters. Rah Digga was hilarious as a "sassy black nanny!" Shannon Elizabeth was tapped for her acting chops instead of her other, more tangible "assets," always a grave miscalculation. Matthew Lillard is annoying in everything he does, but here he truly shines as one of the most annoying characters ever committed to celluloid. Waste of time and effort.

This is what happens when you hire a special fx team before anyone else. You get a movie with a TON of scary as hell monsters, and an ingenious haunted house. On the other hand, everyone in this film overracted, the story was pretty flimsy and every new plot element just seemed like an unfunny punchline and well, I just didn't care. I couldn't even make fun of it, there was nothing there. The DVD feature where they go into the various ghosts' backstories was actually better than the film itself.

Good movie
I mostly watched for Matthew Lillard and I have to say he steals every scene he’s in I like the effects and a really cool idea that it’s literally a glass house
I like the ghosts
In particular the Angry Princess
But Overall it’s not something I would watch very often
Just too many things going on and I thought the story was hard to follow

As Leonard Maltin once said "what else?" - quite possibly one of the most charmless and leaden "studio" horror films in not one of the best eras for the genre; highlighted by an Abraham/Shalhoub mano-a-mano which falls into the "now I've seen everything" category, but weak effects and loud, obnoxious characters and action makes this a gruelling and ultimately numbing experience.

Diverse cast. Well, mostly Lebanese cast, but hey! Diverse ghost body-types too. Fat ghost, skinny ghost, big breast implants ghost. REPRESENTATION FOLKS! There are cool Halloween costumes trapped in this clunker too. Remove a little nudity and gore and it is easily a children's movie to follow a goosebumps marathon. Not to say it didn't maka me nervous soma time, but it's still a silly goose. (P.S. Tony Shalhoub has good husband energy)

Really, its a Sci-Fi Channel level movie but its got enough decent acting to lift it out of the pile. Good enough to watch if you're not doing anything else. Tony Shaloub is always good. The different ghosts were interesting to look at. If Shannon Elizabeth doesn't take her clothes off, she's not that useful in a movie.

rofl what a retarded fucking house. Like anyone would seriously want to live in that thing.
Retarded random bullshit plot with cheap "scares"...I mean they were pretty funny most of the time, but the effects were so shitty and annoying. The performances were good enough, but...I don't know..plus, the ending sucked.

Really entertaining, but for all the wrong reasons. Very, very, very dumb monster/ghost movie, but very pretty to look at. The special effects are really something to behold, but the child actor is horrible, Rah Digga is like nails on a chalkboard, Tony Shalhoub was a moronic character, and Lillard camping it up didn't help. Plot holes abound. Especially when all they're really afraid of is that the ghosts might kick their ass.

It just feels so generic in most aspects except it's effects, which are great. But most other aspects about the film just feel slipshod. There's some interesting plot elements and ghost designs, but the film is too shoddy to utilize them properly. This should have been a decent horror movie, but it isn't, it's just watchable, and not really scary for me.

Some excellent ghost and production designs are completely wasted in dull, pointless, phoned-in "horror" remake of The Money Pit. At least the original had ... well, it wasn't that great either, but it didn't actively try to give you a headache. This is a horror movie made by people who have nothing but contempt for the kind of people who would watch their movies.

Runs into a basic horror math problem, 13 ghosts is about 8 ghosts too many for a 90-minute movie. They barely even get around to half of them! This does lead to one great scene at the end where all the ghosts assemble and Tony Shaloub stands there counting them all the way to 13 with his fingers, just to make clear that the movie did technically deliver on the promise of the title.

Definitely lame; it just doesn't pop off the way it could, which I think is down to characterization--characters have personalities themselves and dynamics together, but to no greater purpose. Enjoyed Matthew Lillard and what was able to be accomplished largely through editing, costuming, and other practical effects. I think William Castle would have liked it.

Wasted Opportunity are two words that describe this one about perfectly. Despite its fun premise and ideas, including memorable creature designs, a mansion that moves, and a surprisingly deep amount of lore behind it, the execution is terrible and far too much of said lore is left out of the script. Characters are bland, the editing is awful, the plot is jumbled, & performances are either bland or comically overblown- and that only works if you're Matthew Lillard. Overall, a disappointment.

This IS actually an entertaining horror/thriller. It has a plot that keeps the story moving along. There are some inventive and gruesome deaths, which right there is enough to make it a good horror flick. The set adds a lot of atmosphere to the film, and the acting is satisfactory.

Kinda pathetic, some of the dialogue is just awful. It just turns into a mess by the end where nothing makes much sense. I will, however, give 10/10 to the set crew. It is probably why so much of the movie has these boring corridor shots. Damn nice glass hallways.

Afraid, not. This isn't a scary film. It's an action thriller that happens to have ghosts and an interesting modern glass house. Nothing about this is scary or spooky. It's more fun than anything else, but I was looking for the horror. The ghosts are interesting, almost cool.

This film is loud, badly acted and crass. The story takes place in a very futuristic haunted house, which looks like it should be in Grand Designs instead of a horror movie. The characters are two dimensional, and the ghosts are so over the top they are funny. Shawna Loyer's character (The angry princess) parades around in the nude revealing that even ghosts can have silicone implants. Despite the special effects this is a B - grade horror film.

I adore the old campy original, even though it is a bad movie. This remake doesn't seem to understand that in order to be successful, you need to either go broke on the camp or skillfully update the original.
