While Howard certainly knows how to stage this rescue mission’s complex, multi-planed action, he doesn’t bring a strong point of view to the material. It isn’t enough to offer just a straightforward tick-tock of events, and that’s not just because last year’s gripping documentary The Rescue, already got there first, with full participation from the real people involved. Howard’s telling is skilled but superfluous.

to me, this and the chilean miners rescue are the stand-out moments of the last decade. Simply staggering achievements. This film is actually pretty pointless and represents nothing other than cashing in on a good story. I am suprised at Howard; in any true story he usually highlights the aftermath, a little explored or "human interest" story. In this he does none of those things and actually belittles the achievement itself. The only thing to marvel at was Farrells English accent and mannerisms

I found "The Rescue" more gripping (perhaps because I watched it first), so this was all about the great Viggo performance for me.

A gripping and surprisingly emotionally lowkey reenactment of, i'm really saying this, kind of a miraculous human achievement. There are flickers of brilliance in Mortensen and Farrell in the sparse moments that they have something to actually do beside diving. A good tagline for this movie would be Long Live Drugs. Everyone would be dead if it weren't for ketamine.

Howard's approach seems to have been that since the rescue mission itself was so dramatic there was no point in adding anymore drama to it, because the film is very subdued and doesn't spend much time on the characters. In some senses it almost feels like a documentary because of that, but I think it works.

Wow! Ron Howard does it again. Bringing this true rescue story to film. Also, three great current actors share the lead: Viggo Mortensen, Joel Edgerton and Colin Farrell.

Superflu et très ennuyeux. Colin Farrell torse-nu, c'est la seule courte image que j'ai retenue de ce film.

Has a pretty shaky start, but after a point, it no longer is about the cinema experience anymore. Rather it's about human ingenuity. Quickly transforms into an engrossing view. Perhaps the understated flow of the movie for scenes outside the cave was by design to compensate for the drama in the cave, but those scenes could have been a tad bit refined (either through better acting, story, dialogues, or a better edit), which would have elevated the movie to 5/5. Ron Howard still has it though.

Better than expected, this is a handsomely-mounted procedural which, other than a few moments in the final act, largely avoids the over-dramatic. Mortensen and Farrell’s accents take a little adjusting to, but they are solid anchors, and the ensemble as a whole is quite strong. Of course, it’s inherently suspenseless - we know how this ends - and suffers by comparison to excellent doc The Rescue. But it’s absorbing, and tears are earned rather than forcefully drawn. Terrible title, though.

Such a good thing it doesn't try to be nothing more than a sober, detailed and straightforward procedural thriller about this amazing rescue mission.

Well, I thought I knew this story, turns out I had no clue. Although it shows you how difficult it was, I think it would’ve been even better as maybe a limited series. But the story.. Just wow..

A good movie that pales in comparison to the documentary.

Mağara filmi. 13 kişilik 1 erkek futbol takımı, eğlence olsun diye mağarada dolaşırlar. Aşırı yağmur yağınca, çocuklar mağarada sıkışırlar. Dünyanın her yerinden çocukları kurtarmaya çalışırlar. 2.5 saat süren film, su altı mağara çekimleriyle izletiyor. Kurtarma filmleri arasında iyi 1 yerde olacak. Fakat öykü o kadar sığ ve abartı ki. Ders niteliğinde 1 film. Ron Howard emekli olmak istiyor. Filmin sonunda, 1 saat süren kurtarma operasyonu. Yağmur geliyor.

Solid docu-drama that is entertaining rather than earth shattering or enlightening. It is a pretty amazing story though!

Thirteen lives is a very nicely adapted movie, which really puts you in the shoes of the divers. I felt anxious multiple times in the film, and was on the edge of my seat throughout the second half, even though I knew how it ends. But then again, it does feel a little lacking in some aspects. Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell are amazing actors, but their characters could've been a lot better written.

“Thirteen Lives” is a technically impressive film that captures the scale of the events in Thailand in 2018. The film's craftsmanship is on point, and the cross-cutting of the editing to show the mission from multiple perspectives, along with the exemplary sound work, makes for a moving and tense motion picture. However, the underdeveloped writing of the characters and the lack of emotional investment leaves the audience wanting more.
